Will Millions Go Uninsured Without ACA Mandate? Spicer Says 'Sure'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By MATT SHUHAM Published MARCH 14, 2017, 3:38 PM EDT

White House press secretary Sean Spicer acknowledged on Tuesday that millions of people would go without health insurance as a result of Republicans' plan to replace Obamacare. But, he said, they would be doing so as a result of the repeal of Obamacare's tax penalties for those without insurance.

"You were saying that people can't get access to insurance, they don't have coverage," CNN's Jim Sciutto said to Spicer during his daily press briefing. "But if you remove the individual mandate, you are going to have people who are not going to buy coverage, they are not going to buy insurance. And so, getting back to the Congressional Budget Office score, would you concede that there will be some coverage losses, perhaps in the millions? That there will be millions of people who will not have health insurance as a result of what you're doing?"

"Well again, sure, except you have to look at the current situation," Spicer responded. "You are mandated by law to buy insurance right now under Obamacare."

"Thirteen-plus million people have asked for a hardship exemption, and then 6.5-plus million have determined to pay the penalty," he continued. "So currently, if we look at the universe and say it's roughly 30 million people, only 9 million people engaged in the exchanges when required by law. The majority, almost two-thirds, if my back-of-the-envelope math is right, about two-thirds have chosen to apply for a hardship exemption or pay a penalty."

WH: Trump Does Not Share 'Point Of View' Espoused In King's 'Babies' Tweet

By ESME CRIBB Published MARCH 14, 2017, 3:23 PM EDT

President Donald Trump does not share Rep. Steve King (R-IA) "point of view" that "civilization" cannot be restored "with somebody else's babies," the White House said on Tuesday.

"I think the President believes that this is not a point of view that he shares," White House press secretary Sean Spicer said during his daily briefing. "He believes he's the President for all Americans, and so I'll leave it at that."

King made the comments in a tweet on Sunday, and doubled down on them on Monday amid widespread backlash, saying that he "meant exactly what I said" in the post.

Asked by WHO's Jan Mickelson on Monday if there was anything about his tweet that he would change, King said: "Not at all."

UNINSURED #1. Yes, some who aren't mandated will NOT buy insurance. We will ALL PAY FOR THEM AS TAXPAYERS via Emergency Rooms in hospitals.

UNINSURED #2. "Holy Crap, a plan that actually COVERS something, ANYTHING, without a HUMONGOUS DEDUCTIBLE is so expensive that ... I will have to GO WITHOUT INSURANCE."

They constantly talk as if there is just ONE FACT ... as if ONE point is the ONLY point. Spin? LIES.

Spicer's comment was:

"I think the President believes that this is not a point of view that he shares,"

The key words here are I think...what the hell does that mean? "I think" as in you are not sure or that you are speaking in code to other xenophobic racist like King that you are doing a roundabout CYA but leaving that seed of doubt in there to stay true to "the cause"?

If they were really against it they would have disavowed it in no uncertain terms and demanded that King apologize for his racist Nazism.

The Congress has declared War on ordinary families living in the country. In actual fact, as a consequence of that War, if the Health Care Bill passes, the American government will end up DIRECTLY killing more people living here than all the terrorists of the World combined could ever hope to kill. In the context of a WAR, where it is a matter of life and death, ordinary language DOES NOT WORK. Fuggedaboutit. Polite pleading does not work. Fuggedaboutit. Appeals to reason do not work. Fuggedaboutit. Fuggedaboutit all the nice, politically correct approaches you've been inculcated with over the decades. The only thing filthy, scheming liars such as trump, tiberi and the rest of this cadre of the scum of the Earth will UNDERSTAND is incendiary, calculated language from LOTS OF PEOPLE, like maybe 1 to 2 million protesting in the streets right beneath their noses. These people in power are literally prosecuting a war against the population. Below is the watered down note I sent to the filthy liar Tiberi who is doing everything in his power to further fleece and decimate middle class families in this country all so that the 1% can get a few additional million per year PER HOUSEHOLD. Unbelievable. You want my advice, LOL? You better start screaming bloody murder and frankly, even if all of us start screaming bloody murder, it might be too late.

Hey, Tiberi, why are you promoting an Act that will directly result in the deaths of more Americans that if the borders were flat out open to every terrorist on the planet? How stupid can you be? Health care is THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHT THERE IS. People like yourself, who are so utterly morally depraved, and who can't get even that simple concept through your thick heads are the literal SCUM OF THE EARTH. The time for pussyfooting around is over. If your mental function is so defective and so inadequate that you can't articulate support for basic HUMAN RIGHTS, please get the Hell out of my country. Why the population puts up with scum like you is absolutely beyond belief. Copies to all the neighbors who, by the way, refer to you as, I quote, "THAT LITTLE WEASEL". Stop helping the rich rob the poor blind and again, if you're such a moral idiot (apparently you are), just get the Hell out of that office and let a GENUINE HUMAN BEING GET THE JOB DONE. YOU PEOPLE IN CONGRESS ARE NOTHING BUT BASTARDS!! ABSOLUTE SCUM OF THE EARTH, AND THAT'S PUTTING IT MILDLY.

What a strange statement by Spicer. He thinks the president believes? Can he get any more weasly?

Everyone has insurance. Everyone has to pay based on income. If you don't make enough you don't pay anything, and thus don't have to ask for a hardship exemption. I think a big chunk of the 6.5 million determined to pay the penalty probably self-insure themselves; they're rich enough. So they can pay more into a social system.
