Group of 17 Republicans sign US House resolution to fight climate change

Source: Reuters

15 MAR 2017 AT 10:42 ET

A group of 17 Republicans in Congress signed a resolution on Wednesday vowing to seek economically viable ways to stave off global warming, possibly putting them on a collision course with President Donald Trump who has called climate change a hoax.

Republicans Elise Stefanik of New York, Carlos Curbelo of Florida and Ryan Costello of Pennsylvania introduced the legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives pledging to study and address the causes and effects of measured changes to our global and regional climates and seek ways to balance human activities that contribute.

Several Republicans who signed the resolution represent parts of the country most affected. Curbelo hails from Miami, where streets regularly flood at high tide due to rising sea levels.

This issue was regrettably politicized some 20 or so years ago, and we are in the process of taking some of the politics out, reducing the noise, and focusing on the challenge and on the potential solutions, Curbelo said in a call with journalists on Tuesday.

The Republican anti-environmental agenda will still move forward unimpeded, but these posers will be able to campaign with a pro-environment platform.

Assuming that all dems vote for it and that it is even brought up to the floor. In practice the odds are nearly zero since ryan decides what is put up for consideration and more than likely those republicans are not all grouped up in a single commitee where they could push for it.

Mattis goes against just about all of the tRump regime on climate change. It is probable that a majority in the Turd Reich actually believe anthropomorphic global warming is happening but state otherwise publicly and officially and even in internal discussions for the sake of their jobs and power.

But the military knows, because it absolutely has to be rooted in reality.

must be at least 24 Republicans calling for action -- assuming that we have all the Democrats. In 2010, this did not split just on party lines - so it is likely we would need more than 24 Republicans just to get to 50%.

Hopefully, the international movement to move to cleaner fuels will provide enough of a signal to the market that tech companies will put money into research to avoid losing out. That and the liberal cities, states and regions could be a force for change. Not to mention, there could be international pressure.
