Ray Davies of The Kinks knighted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace
Source: San Diego Union Tribune
Goodbye, Ray Davies, hello, Sir Ray Davies!
On Thursday, the legendary mastermind of The Kinks was knighted at Londons Buckingham Palace by Prince Charles. Its an honor that was previously bestowed upon such fellow English rock legends as Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Elton John, as well as Indian music legend and former Encinitas resident Ravi Shankar.
Davies knighthood comes 29 years after he wrote the music and lyrics for the La Jolla Playhouses international debut production of Around the World in 80 Days. His most recent San Diego concert was in 2012 a House of Blues.
A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Davies, 72, playfully reacted to his knighting, telling reporters: It lasted three minutes and it went very well, and I said goodbye and went home.

(37,748 posts)As per Burke's Peerage, The Honours Act 1925 prevents the legal sale of knighthoods and other honors. If you do in fact, purchase one, someone sold you the Brooklyn Bridge.

(1,430 posts) a London-based consulting firm claims it can quietly guide a nomination from daydream to reality.
"A lot of people think you just have to wait for the phone to ring and someone at Buckingham Palace will be on the other end saying, 'Congratulations, the queen's going to give you an OBE,'" says Mark Llewellyn-Slade, founder of Awards Intelligence.
But getting the kind of help his agency offers comes at a price. The company's packages start at around $10,000 and go to $16,700 for an 8,000-word nomination letter and up to 15 drafted recommendation letters.
