Key senators say they have no evidence that Trump Tower was wiretapped

Source: The Washington Post

By Karoun Demirjian March 16 at 2:00 PM

The Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee joined the chorus of lawmakers stating they are not aware of any current evidence supporting President Trump’s claim that his campaign headquarters were wiretapped during the presidential election.

Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) on Thursday released a joint statement with the ranking Democrat, Sen. Mark Warner (Va.), stating that they have not seen data supporting Trump’s claim.

“Based on the information available to us, we see no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016,” they said.

Burr and Warner are leading the Senate investigation into Russia’s suspected interference in the 2016 elections to aid Trump. They also examining alleged ties between Trump aides and Russian officials. They were joined last week and again on Wednesday by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) — leading a similar investigation in the House — who also stated that he has not seen evidence to support the president’s complaint that his offices were wiretapped during the campaign.

Should say something like this:

The Republican and Democratic leaders of the Senate Intelligence Committee joined the chorus of lawmakers stating they are not aware of any current evidence supporting President Trump’s claim that his phone was wiretapped during the presidential election by President Obama.

The asshole's original claim needs to be quoted verbatim.

6. I dunno. It's a blanket statement... no wiretaps means no wiretaps.

I think it covers even more ground so 45 can't weasel around with more revisionist history about what me "meant" to say.

That's 1 in a million odds that he didn't wiretap asshole.

Why cut the fucker any slack and give him 2 in a million odds?

The less wiggle room the worm he has the better.

If Trump is using a cellphone, how can his "wires" be "tapped"?

I'm still waiting to hear how he wiggles out of this.

Somehow decent Americans can't get used to the republican leader's lies. What a crappy role model the Republicans have imposed on America .

Most deplorables believe both parts of that statement

So I think Trump was just spreading fake news

But by all means let us continue to investigate Trumps fantasies instead of funding the EPA, NIH, Department of State, LIHEAP, meals on wheels, CDBGs, the Endowment for the Arts and Humanities, PBS, etc.

7. Of course, they are not saying where the surveillance was or is happening. Server was in PA, not

in Trump Tower.

Always pay close attention to how politicians parse their words. Clapper said their was not surveillance of Trump Tower, but he did not rule out elsewhere. They also say no serveillance of "campaign" which does not preclude surveillance of Donnie's Russian mob friends in Trump Tower. And, it doesn't rule out Russia spying on trump HQ.

Trump was trying to sidetrack the real investigation and create a prejudice against forthcoming revelations from the actual surveillance elsewhere. He's hoping to shore up support in advance for when the actual wiretap evidence comes out.

Maybe this happened today because Trump admitted last night that he "found out" from stories in NY Times and Bret Baier of Fox. Plus Sessions denied that he had said anything to Trump
