House to vote Thursday on GOP Obamacare replacement

Source: Politico

By RACHAEL BADE 03/17/17 11:05 AM EDT

House Republicans will vote Thursday on Speaker Paul Ryan’s Obamacare replacement bill, two senior GOP sources told POLITICO.

The move shows that GOP leaders are confident they have the 216 votes needed to pass the bill, even as as the far-right and centrist Republicans continue to press for changes.

GOP leaders and President Donald Trump spent much of Friday morning talking to critics of the plan. Trump called a number of lawmakers concerned about the bill to the White House, where Majority Whip Steve Scalise and his chief deputy whip Patrick McHenry also huddled with wary members.

House Leadership Aiming For Floor Vote On Obamacare Repeal Bill Next Thursday

By TIERNEY SNEED Published MARCH 17, 2017, 11:30 AM EDT

Even as major intra-party disagreements about House Obamacare replacement legislation continue, GOP leadership is aiming to bring the controversial bill, the American Health Care Act, up for a floor vote next Thursday, Politico reported based on two senior GOP sources.

The move comes as GOP leaders put on the full-court press to get defecting members on board, which included a highly visible meeting between President Donald Trump and about a dozen House members at the White House Friday morning.

Before it goes to the House floor, the legislation will be subjected to one more committee mark-up, in the House Rules Committee, where amendments to the bill are expected to be brought up. House leadership and the White House are working on a so-called manager's amendment that they hope can straddle the different objections that Republican hardliners and the more moderate members have to the legislation in its current form.

Kicking millions off insurance as fast as possible would be the best representation of their Christianity which they constantly invoke.

A "good Christian" like Donald Trump or Paul Ryan can make the Bible say anything they want it to. In this case, they're using one of the GOP's favorite verses, 2 Thessalonians 3.10...which says:

The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.

That's pretty hardcore...what's the rest of the passage say? Set down your George W. Bush Edition of the Bible (all the smiting, none of the salvation), pick up a real one, and turn to 2 Thessalonians 3.6...

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us. For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyone’s food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate. For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. Such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and earn the food they eat. And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.

Take special note of anyone who does not obey our instruction in this letter. Do not associate with them, in order that they may feel ashamed. Yet do not regard them as an enemy, but warn them as you would a fellow believer.

This rates right up there with using a passage from Jeremiah 1 (before I formed you in the womb I knew you) to prove God hates abortion while leaving out two subtleties: in Jeremiah God was talking to one person - the Prophet Jeremiah; and God hates abortion so much he allowed Numbers 5 to contain a very detailed set of instructions for performing one.

By that I mean the televised Committee hearings where the merits of bills are actually discussed, meaning expert witnesses are brought in and American's can get an understanding on how they might be personally affected by the legislation. Members of both parties question the experts and members of both parties call their own witnesses.

This mess was marked up behind closed doors where only a handful of Republicans could see it. This super fix all amendment will be presented to members of the House minutes before the vote takes place. This idiotic process just show how Republicans can't lead, let alone govern.

Not only will this debacle cause 24 million Americans to lose insurance when fully implemented, the deterioration of coverage for those still covered will kick in as spending accounts, that are tricky to manage, will rule. This insane bill will cause people to die sooner than they otherwise would have - did the CBO ever score that? That is a key metric.

It worries me sick to think that my daughter, with her severe form of depression, will lose her insurance. Without insurance I cannot afford the treatments making her at risk to a bad outcome. Talk about death panels..........................

a couple of hours ago.

It was in response to my thanking her for being on the correct side of this fight, and my telling her my story.

The assistant phoned to flesh out my story, so that my Representative could (with the permission I gave) include it in her speech.

I like having Representatives that are, well..., representative.
