Adam Schiff slams intel chair Devin Nunes for caving to White House and canceling key Russia hearing

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) unleashed a blistering attack on his colleague, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), for cancelling a major public hearing on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
During a press conference on Friday, Schiff said Nunes made a serious mistake by cancelling the open session that had been planned for this coming Tuesday that was set to feature former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.
Schiff then slammed Nunes for doing a dead-of-night review of documents related to surveillance of President Donald Trumps associates and then running to share their contents with the White House before even notifying his own colleagues on the House Intelligence Committee. We dont welcome cutting off access to public information, he said.
Schiff also said that there was likely some pushback from the White House that caused Nunes to want to cancel the open hearing.

(15,695 posts)This sudden delay in holding another hearing session now makes a lot of sense.
Hmmmm. Do Republicans still think their phone records can be purged? They need to read more.

(51,129 posts)Probably by the FISA Court or a secret grand jury. Weeks ago now the White House counsel issued tan order to everyone in house, and you kbnow that wasn't Trump's idea.
That's why trump started blowing smoke about Obama, he had been put on notice he was being investigated. Trump's tactic became to create the aura of an illegitimate investigation having taken place.

(7,768 posts)BTW...both offices answered the phone on the 2nd ring with a real live person!!
Rep. Heck's aide told me that he would pass on my suggestion to have a sit-down on the House floor.
Rep. Larsen's aide told me the same.
Neither aide told me what they were planning to do or what their options are. Both said they are very supportive of Rep. Adam Schiff.
I gave these aides a real ear-full of the peril I feel for this country and I also commended Rep. Heck's testimony and statement at the open hearing.

(32 posts)In the olden days when the top 1% got a quarter of output and 10% owned everything, they used to chop people's heads off because people were so pissed. Ethically (morally), it would be preferable to have mass street demonstrations (instead) but the public is too stupid to turn out in force. The bottom line is so long as iphones and all the other toys are still available, the establishment has nothing to worry about...the populace will REMAIN almost totally pacified and the fleecing and theft will continue unabated.
Your idea is a good one but it presumes a circumstance (intelligence) in the population that in fact does not exist. We know that because AT PRESENT even with 1% of the households now walking away with a quarter of the output there is essentially ZERO opposition. The reason there is essentially zero opposition is because people are just too stupid to have even simple awareness of their surroundings. I mean if we don't ALREADY have daily rioting with 1% walking off with a quarter of output what will it take? 1% walking off with half? My point is get real: people are stupid and you can't change the course of EVOLUTION. And, the capitalists know people are stupid - Trump said so himself, dramatically and clearly: he LOVES the uneducated, can't get enough of them - and so the capitalist bloodsuckers are laughing all the way to the bank while reading DU.
What a comedy...a nation of 330 million morons. If there are demonstrations, I'll show up, but I'm not holding my breath.

Since these two are basically running interference for Treason, it still what it is, Treason, there is from all indications a spy running around in this administration past and present associations.
And we in the public should be outraged

Oddly, this hadn't occurred to me. If the president's name came up in incidental communication, then that would be damning. I'm paraphrasing obviously, but if it is something like this.
Russian Ambassador: "Mr. Flynn, we have received assurances from Mr. Trump that he would take steps to dismantle NATO"
Flynn: "Yes, he still plans on making those changes to our foreign policy"
Russian Ambassador: "...and Tillerson will be Secretary of State"
Flynn: "absolutely"
Of course, I'm just making up the conversation, but you can see that Trump is mentioned in this conversation that would be picked up if a FISA court allowed surveillance of Flynn.
McCain said "There are lots of shoes that are gonna drop." Perhaps Nunes caught this particular shoe.

(1,142 posts)He's got to be violating ethics laws being a member of Trump's transition team, and trying to run an investigation into his own associates, and further by still sharing information from his role as committee chair with the White House and even allowing the WH to control the investigation itself canceling hearings and so on.

God I hope that someday these traitors suffer the consequences for their actions but so often, nowadays, selfish, criminal behavior goes unpunished.
I just hope, hope, hope that voters realize what the Republicans are doing to their country and allow Democrats to control Congress in 2018 but with the massive conservative propaganda machine running 24 hours a day I am not at all sure that this will happen.
