More signs that House panels Trump-Russia probe is reeling

Source: Raw Story

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the chairman of the committee, announced Friday that he had postponed what was to have been another public hearing on Tuesday, a decision that was angrily denounced moments later by Rep. Adam Schiff, the Californian who is the highest ranking Democrat on the committee. Schiff pointedly called the postponement a cancellation.

Nunes had said the committee needed more time so its members could hear in closed session more testimony from FBI Director James Comey and his National Security Agency counterpart, Adm. Mike Rogers. The two had said Monday that they could not answer some questions in public, and Nunes said the committee needs those answers "before we can move forward."

But Schiff accused Nunes of canceling the hearing, which was to have heard from Obama administration officials, to "choke off public information" and avoid any more embarrassment to the White House.

You've probably noticed that when Dems are asked if Nunes should step down, they don't say he should. What they do say is that this is a reason an independent commission is needed. Dems are consistent in saying this. They also say they want the house intel committee to continue to investigate and they won't step away unless they're convinced the Rs on the committee aren't serious about doing one.

The strategy appears to be ratcheting up public pressure for an independent commission and on Nunes personally to run a thorough investigation.

truth will come out--and in fact, such a commission, if compromised, is even more effective at burying the truth.

After all, the Warren Commission buried at least part of the truth about the JFK assassination, and the 9/11 commission buried important parts of the truth about 9/11, especially the Saudi stuff in those 28 redacted pages.

If an independent commission is suitably stacked with GOP lapdogs, we won't get the truth, and once again the real criminals will walk, even if a few low-level apparatchiks spend a few years in prison. But since it sill have been an "independent commission," we will be told that we must accept its conclusions without question and "Move on, nothing to see here."

But, this is the kind of scandal with a criminal investigation well in progress already, so these committees and a special investigative body may remain secondary to a judicial process that is well along in process.

By the time committees and commissions report, there may be trials in progress, guilty pleas, plea bargains, Trump and Pence resignations, new cabinet members, etc.
