At least 12 dead in Texas church bus crash, police say

At least 12 people died on Wednesday in a head-on collision between a church bus and a pickup truck in Concan, Texas, officials said.

At least three other people are injured in the accident, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said that the bus was carrying congregants from the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels, Texas at a little after noon, when the accident occurred.

They tend to drive reckless around here. It was a head-on collision. The bus was pushed up against the guardrail and the truck was in the bus's lane. Double yellow line.

"An area resident told the Uvalde Leader-News that she was behind one of the vehicles involved in the crash and called to report reckless driving before the crash occurred."

By now you've seen it but I want to add it to this thread: the 20-year-old pickup driver was texting and driving.

this is the result of not following them. People die. Texting is almost more dangerous drinking and driving. It's friggin' stupid to do. I don't even like the radio when I'm driving. I tune out my wife, the radio, and the kids when I'm driving. When you're driving, you have one job. Get that 2000+ pound death machine to your destination with yourself and your passengers alive.
I don't even take a sip of beer when I'm at dinner if I have to drive. I'm boring as hell, but I'm 41 years old, and I haven't been in an accident since I started driving, and that's way more important.

So they are old and sometimes dangerously worn out or badly maintained, not to mention old unsafe equipment.

The bus in this accident looks a lot newer, one of those small van/buses.

Known defect. They never tried a case, all settled. Should have been recalled years ago. With weight behind axel and leaf springs they would lose the rear end. I don't know if this is the case here though.

Look at the position of the vehicles. Truck appears to have crossed the center line. And this account talks about a pick-up driving erratically and veering into the other lane.

In Long Beach at the Queen Mary. And there's no onsite parking at the Queen Mary. So you have to park at the Long Beach convention center and take a bus. That bus ride was the scariest fucking bus ride I've ever been in. I don't think that they maintain these things very well. I can see these things would accident prone.

And I wish the families peace.

But what will happen at the funeral is what drove me from religious life...it was Gods will. Even at 8 years of age I used to think WTF. Ok not that exactly as I did not know what that word at 8.

I am confident the church family will give the bereaved comfort. Hopefully we will learn from this and find a way to prevent it in the future.

Terrifying new footage shows a truck swerving across a Texas road moments before it plowed into a church bus, killing 13 people.

Witness Jody Kuchler, 55, said he recorded the video while calling authorities in an attempt to get the driver off the road.

The clip shows the White Dodge pickup truck recklessly swerving across the lanes, almost causing several crashes before the deadly incident Wednesday.

Kuchler kept recording for 20 minutes, remaining at a safe distance behind the vehicle, which authorities said was driven by 20-year-old Jack Dillon Young in Uvalde County.

Kuchler recalled on Friday: 'He said, 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I was texting.' I said, 'Son, do you know what you just did?' He said, 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry.'
