Trump Campaign Going Up With $1.5 Million Ad Buy Promoting First 100 Days

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published MAY 1, 2017 7:40 AM

President Donald Trump’s campaign on Monday morning announced a $1.5 million ad buy to tout his first 100 days in the Oval Office. The buy includes a 30-second television ad and digital ads, the Trump campaign said in a statement unveiling the ad buy.

The television ad promotes Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, claims that Trump has created jobs in the U.S., and touts his work to undo regulations passed under President Barack Obama.

“You wouldn’t know it from watching the news,” the narrator says in the ad as the screen flashes “FAKE NEWS.” “America is winning, and President Trump is making America Great Again.”

The ad buy promoting Trump’s first 100 days came after Trump repeatedly tried to downplay the 100-day mark. Trump also pushed for Congress to move forward on a bill to repeal Obamacare by the 100-day mark, but Republican leaders have still not been able to bring the bill to a vote.

is going to be to try to start a civil war, by discrediting allegations. He will stop at nothing, and has huge Koch and Mercer money behind him.

this is more reality TV, than reality. There is a certain amount of marketing in any presidency, but with Trump, that is pretty much all there is. All hype, no substance.

being subjected to this Trump mind control.

Again, these are people in small towns and cities that are not prospering,
and are not going to prosper, though they will enjoy a $3 a week tax cut

I think it's becoming a nation of suburbs versus rural reactionary places,
progressives vs. fundamentalists.

Trump motivated voters with anger. Something had to be done about the
demons he created in their minds. Bill Clinton said his wife had become
"cartoon Hillary". That was too mild. She was demonized.

Flip the demon game on Trump, should be easy since they've made themselves
a target.

The main focus of the counter-ads needs to be (not too subtly) "don't be conned by tRump's ad".

1.5 mil to advertise nothing got done?

Oh. Without even playing the video he's quoting "Biggest Tax Cut in History" from Boston Globe.

Um. That didn't actually happen. At least not yet. But this is like quoting a movie review saying "...spectacular...!" when the full quote is "This film is a bomb of spectacular proportions!"

The Globe has the headline including ‘biggest tax cut ever’, but goes on to say

The plan does not propose any budget cuts or tax increases that might offset the lost revenue, a choice that alarms some fiscal conservatives in Trump’s party who have spent years railing about the dangers of deficit spending.

It also does not fully embrace tax proposals backed by Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan, an essential ally if the president is to make good on his promise to deliver a tax overhaul that creates growth and brings jobs to struggling parts of the country.

‘‘Unfortunately, it seems the administration is using economic growth like magic beans — the cheap solution to all our problems,’’ said Maya MacGuineas, president of the non-partisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. ‘‘But there is no golden goose at the top of the tax cut beanstalk, just mountains of debt.’’
