Ivey signs bill allowing denial of LGBT adoptions

Gov. Kay Ivey Wednesday signed legislation that would allow religious agencies to deny child placement to LGBT individuals.
The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Rich Wingo, R-Tuscaloosa, passed the Legislature last month and drew fire from critics who said it would deny children access to loving homes. In a statement, Ivey said she believed in “protecting religious liberty in Alabama.”
“This bill is not about discrimination, but instead protects the ability of religious agencies to place vulnerable children in a permanent home,” the statement said.
Religious-affiliated agencies told a Senate committee last month that wanted the ability to conduct their services without abandoning their religious beliefs. Wingo said Wednesday evening he was "grateful" Ivey signed the legislation.

What's really sad, is that is what should be happening, but it is more important for people to be able to be bigots than provide children with loving, supportive homes.
