Official: Cindy McCain eyed for senior State Dept. role

Source: Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) Cindy McCain, the wife of Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, is expected to be offered a prominent role in the Trump administrations State Department, two individuals familiar with the discussions said Thursday.

Although it wasnt clear what position she would fill, one possibility under discussion is McCain serving as an ambassador-at-large in Washington, focusing on a specific issue such as human trafficking, according to the administration official and another individual familiar with the talks. McCain, a philanthropist and global humanitarian activist, has been a vocal advocate for victims of human trafficking for several years.

Both individuals said they werent authorized to speak on the matter ahead of a final decision and demanded anonymity.

Placing McCain in a State Department role would elevate the spouse of one of President Donald Trumps fiercest and most respected Republican critics on foreign policy, potentially diffusing tensions between Trumps administration and foreign policy conservatives. It could also strengthen ties between the State Department and Capitol Hill as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson pushes sweeping cuts to the agency amid opposition from many lawmakers in Congress.

Buy him off via the wife.
With McConnell it's the golden pot for him & his wife of trillion dollar+ infrastructure pot of gold (plus open fire sale of our Commons)
certainly enough to shut Mcconnell up and get him to use his position to menace successfully against release of
intelligence investigation info ag TrumpRussia during the campaign (and still)

The job being offered Cindy doesn't seem worth very much monetarily compared to that McConnell was bribed with.
The McCains should feel somewhat shortchanged.

John McCain lost a lot of respect when he chose $arah PayMe as his VP. He flip flops so much he must have whiplash by now. So, now we will have two McCains on the government payroll, with GREAT healthcare and lots of $$$$. What happened to Calista Gingrich being ambassador to the Vatican? Do these people and their relatives EVER try working in the private sector anymore? Once they find out the perks of being on taxpayer payroll, they can not seem to cut themselves loose from it.

It seems her only qualification is that Trump thinks she can butter McCain up to support lifting Russia sanction.

If Trump knew anything about McCain, he'd know McCain never gave a shit what any of his wives thought.

about. It will probably neutralize his "joined at the hip buddy" Graham too. Yeah, she may be good at the job, but clearly this has nothing to do w Cindy McCain, and everything to do w John McCain. The timing will probably be perfect for the Senate Trumpcare bill, Russian collusion investigation....

DT is more shrewd than I thought he was, but this could be Bannon's idea. Of course, they strategize, who could cause us problems in the Senate? McCain. So, how can we get McCain to back off? Give his wife a chance at her own career. McCain won't ruin his wife's career. Bingo.

The reason McCain was saddled with Palin was because of Cindy's beer distributorship: without a fundamentalist on the ticket they were staying home en masse. Now Trump chooses Cindy for a prime position in his government? Whoever upthread said this was about standing John down over Russia was probably correct, but from a strategic point of view this is a disaster. 2018 will be worse for the R's than in 2010 when Obama didn't give us our pony. Apparently Trump thinks giving his base a half ton of horse shit counts as a pony.
