Moon Jae-in was the second most liberal candidate on the ballot. He was expected to win following the faltering by Ahn Cheol-soo (considered the center-left candidate, but in my opinion the opportunist candidate)
Polls closed at 8pm local. As of 7:00, 75% of registered voters had voted

Just glad that twit Ahn didn't win

(6,034 posts)Mr. Moons victory would scramble the geopolitics of the standoff over North Koreas nuclear arsenal. Even as it is urging the world to step up pressure on Pyongyang, the Trump administration now faces the prospect of a key ally one with the most to lose in any conflict with the North breaking ranks and adopting a more conciliatory approach.

So which ally will we piss off next.
On a side note "engagement and dialogue" hasn't worked either. Both Clinton, Bush 43, and Obama tried it.
North Korea seems to act in a belligerent fashion no matter what and grading concessions would seem to be a reward for their behavior.

(37,748 posts)Ignoring a mechanism with an 89% historical accuracy rating appears to be a short-sighted reaction at best, irrational at worst.
If one is looking for 100% accuracy, it won't be found in politics nor social sciences.

(37,648 posts)And exit polls showed the same thing.
I don't hold much stock in exit polls. They've been wrong before. I think exit polls had John Kerry winning.

(24,328 posts)It was in the last US election as well
It was pre election day polling, not the exit polling that was wrong
