Rudy Giuliani next FBI director? Former mayor due at White House; insists he isn't being considered

Source: Newsweek

Rudy Giuliani has denied that he is a candidate to be the new, permanent FBI director, despite saying that he was scheduled for a meeting at the White House Wednesday.

The former New York City mayor and presidential candidate was rumored by many to be a possible choice to replace James Comey after he was controversially fired by President Donald Trump Tuesday evening.

Giuliani was a big supporter of Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign and was at one point expected to take a leading position within his administration. He also was in Washington, at Trump International Hotel, just hours after Comey’s dismissal. Speaking to reporters from The Atlantic and New York Magazine late Tuesday evening, Giuliani was asked about the prospect of succeeding Comey and current Acting Director Andrew McCabe.

“I’m not a candidate for FBI director,” Giuliani said. “The president’s not gonna ask me, and I’m not gonna be FBI director.”

But Giuliani, who serves as an informal cybersecurity adviser to Trump’s administration, went on to say that he was set to be at the White House Wednesday, although purely in relation to his current role. “I’ll be possibly—I’ll be in the White House tomorrow,” he said. “Nothing to do with, uh, having to do with my role.”

Not corrupt enough for tRump? Rudy has NO ethics, no respect FROM anyone, he would be tRump's perfect choice, after Ivanka of course. Maybe Jared could cut back on his other duties, and fill the role?

King Con wants to turn the FBI into a third world-style Gestapo: subservient to the dictator and his paranoia, while repressing dissent and, above all, good journalism.

Is FBI director still one of the things that Dems could filibuster?

I heard someone float Ray Kelly, that sounds more feasible to me.

But Bitchy Mitchy will just suspend the rules again. They want to turn the FBI into their Gestapo, and they're certainly not going to let a filibuster get in the way of that.

I think Harry Reid eliminated the filibuster for Presidential appointments. So the 'pubs could force it through on a party line vote. Which would suck.

BUT, not before confirmation hearings. And the confirmation hearings would be glorious for Dems and very possibly devastating for Trump and 'Pub senators. Imagine Giuliani, under oath, in open session, facing question after question from several Dem senators about anything they want. Then getting a few ridiculous softball questions from 'Pub senators. Just imagine how it would look for a nominee for Director of the FBI to have to take the fifth in his confirmation hearings! It would be political gold for our side!

Then, Giuliani would be subject to the same questioning regimen on a regular basis. Just as part of the job description.

I'm not sure Trump would make it through the confirmation hearing without Rudy causing impeachment hearings to start.

He is there because of his entanglement in the Russia affair. Just last week he was implicated as being involved in the whole thing. i am quite sure he is not there for the FBI slot.

I mean I wouldn't put anything past Trump at this point but putting the ghoul up for the FBI spot would be yet another self inflicted wound.

however, I would think it's not that far out of the realm of speculation that Giuliani might know people (or know people who know people) within the state's Attorney General's Office.

Maybe trying to get a pulse on how far the state's case against Trump may be going.

for more impact, etc. God only knows why, but it sounds as if he has tried to present himself as a world's authority on law enforcement already.

Who in this country could imagine that grinning death's mask as the FBI director without gagging, anyway?
