Lawmakers to Trump: Turn over transcript of meeting with Russians
Source: Washington Post
A growing number of Republican and Democratic lawmakers are calling on President Trump to hand over the transcript of the White House meeting last week in which he revealed highly classified information to Russias foreign minister and ambassador, according to current and former U.S. officials.
Members of Congress primarily Democrats have spent several days demanding that Trump turn over tapes of White House meetings after he suggested, while defending his decision to fire FBI Director James B. Comey, that he records his conversations.
But the calls intensified Tuesday morning after Trump seemed to acknowledge on Twitter that he had shared sensitive information during his meeting with the Russians.
We want to know what took place in that meeting, and my understanding is there may be recordings or transcripts, Sen. Mark R. Warner (Va.), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Tuesday on Capitol Hill. Obviously, wed like to see that with appropriate redactions.

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer says the White House should immediately provide the transcript of President Trump's meeting with Russian officials last week. Speaking from the Senate floor on Tuesday, Schumer said, "If the president has nothing to hide, he should direct that the transcript of the meeting be made available." Trump on Tuesday defended having disclosed information to senior Russian officials last week, saying he had an "absolute right" to do so and had shared facts to get Moscow to step up its fight against the Islamic State militant group. The president took to Twitter to counter a torrent of criticism, including from his fellow Republicans, after reports that during a White House meeting he had revealed highly classified information about a planned Islamic State operation. Two U.S. officials said Trump shared the intelligence, supplied by an ally of the United States in the fight against the Islamist group, with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak during a meeting in the Oval Office last Wednesday. The disclosures late on Monday roiled the administration as it struggled to move past the backlash over Trump's abrupt firing on May 9 of FBI Director James Comey, who was investigating potential ties between Russia and Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
