Sanders: Trump plan to cut Medicaid is 'just cruel'

Source: The Hill

BY MAX GREENWOOD - 05/23/17 11:01 AM EDT

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Tuesday blasted President Trump's proposed cuts to Medicaid as "just cruel," casting the plan as a campaign promise broken by the president.

"Trump promised during the campaign that he would not cut Medicaid. Now he's trying to slash it in half. That is just cruel," Sanders wrote on Twitter.

The White House on Tuesday unveiled a 2018 spending proposal that lays out a strategy for balancing the budget over 10 years. The plan largely takes aim at government programs that provide assistance to low-income and poverty-stricken Americans, including Medicaid and food assistance.
As a presidential candidate, Trump vowed to "save" social programs like Medicare and Medicaid without cutting their budgets.

"Save Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security without cuts," Trump said at a 2015 campaign rally. "Have to do it. Get rid of the fraud, get rid of the waste and abuse, but save it."

Trump will be impeached, tried and convicted of crimes and serving time in Federal Prison before these cuts are enacted. The Republicans who vote for his budget will be replaced in 2018 by the voters who had supported Trump, but found out they are the ones getting shortchanged by it.

over furniture behind us as we ran out the door? I think Trump is throwing everything he can at the Democrats to try to slow them down from concentrating on the investigations. Afterall, his supporters think that the terrorism that occurred in Great Britain should have wiped those investigations off the news, so why not attack safety net programs to trip up the Democrats?

Just a thought.

He is going to do a massive cut on Medicaid and you know damn well Medicare is going to be messed with just as badly. food cards are going to be drastically cut. We know damn well they are quietly working on decreasing subsidized housing. So, they are going to say churches will step up to help and you know I am right BUT if you are not a head banging tongue speaking extremist far right fundamental Christian they will and can deny you help. To top it off the government will not allow the homeless to stay anywhere because what the government created is a bother. People, we are totally fucked if we can not get trump, pence, and ryan out. Oh yeah, and the rest of the bags of shit in the administration out. If one goes another will take their place to do the same thing. Maybe in a different way but in the end it will be the same as the ultimate trump plan.

People that would be affected by this far outnumber those that stand to get screwed by the
lettle pantloads health care plan. People were standing up in townhall meetings and yelling at their
reps for that. The politicos in washington are aware of elections coming round. They may push medicaid changes for
next year...if at all. I hope

within millions of American families but, let's not forget about the immediate negative impact this would have by removing billions of dollars from the economy. All of these people don't hoard money like the rich do. Whatever assistance they receive almost immediately goes right back into the economy. If they actually do this it will have devastating effects. Bernie is right about the cruelty but, it has become obvious that republicans are just black-hearted scum.

"So it has come to this: A Russian government-funded propaganda outfit schooling the Trump administration on the cruelty of its proposed federal budget.

Mick Mulvaney, President Trump’s budget director, unveiled Trump’s ghastly 2018 budget proposal Monday afternoon in the White House briefing room, and one point of pride was that it proposed that the child-care tax credit and the earned-income tax credit — benefits for working families — be denied to illegal immigrants. “It’s not right when you look at it from the perspective of people who pay the taxes,” Mulvaney declared.

But Andrew Feinberg, a reporter with Russia’s Sputnik news outfit, pointed out that many of the children who would be cut off under Trump’s proposal are U.S. citizens. “Whether they’re here illegally or not,” Feinberg noted, “those families have American-citizen children.”

Mulvaney, who probably didn’t know he was being interrogated by Sputnik, argued back, saying that Feinberg wasn’t duly considering taxpayers and that “we have all kinds of other programs” for poor kids.

At this, another reporter in the room interjected: “You’re cutting that, too.”

The Tangerine Turd may be on to something here. By cutting billions from the HHS budget, he is willing, along with his republican brethren, to let poor folks die for want of medical care. Much like animal herds in the wild, the old and weak will get culled while the young and vigorous survive and thrive. It's scientific! It's positively Darwinism! It's a win-win-win! The 1% will get millions in tax cuts (they are after all the job creators!). The overburdened healthcare professionals will only have to treat healthy people thereby making their jobs much less demanding and much more rewarding. Finally, it will lighten the load of poor folks. They will not need to feed, clothe, house, educate and care for sickly children anymore. They will have a "one time only" burial expense per child. After that, it's the gravy train. The Poor can then start taking those luxury cruises again, buy i-phones, drive Cadillacs, and enjoy air conditioning. As my Uncle Scrooge used to say," If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population."
