Democratic candidates won special elections in two districts that voted for President Donald Trump by significant margins.

In a special election for New York’s District 9 State Assembly, Democrat Christine Pellegrino upset Republican Thomas Gargiulo, The Huffington Post reported.

Trump had won District 9 by 23 points in November. The seat was formerly held by Republican Joseph Saladino, who resigned after being appointed town supervisor of Oyster Bay.

Democrats also pulled off an upset in New Hampshire’s Carroll County District 6, where Democrat Edith DesMarais defeated Republican Matthew Plache, according to WMUR. In the 2016 presidential election, Trump defeated Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in District 6 by seven points.

We've got three special elections coming up in the next month, including Rob Quist's election tomorrow, and it looks like it's going to be a close one. He's been closing the gap and the polls are closer than ever. Let's keep the momentum going and get another seat back from the bastards.

....(particularly the one on Long Island), but they'll have little affect on the country as a whole. Let's hope this is a harbinger of big things in the 2018 election.

11. Well, maybe they'll have little effect on the country as a whole - NOW.

But at the state legislature and local level - Dems have been not just asleep, but in a collective coma for far too long. They slept and slept and slept some more while the bad guys systematically schemed, organized, and took over all the low-level seats they could - state, county, city, neighborhood. And that's where they build their farm team to run for higher office later and then eventually Congressmember, Senator, Governor, Secretaries of State, and higher. While our team stayed asleep. Pretty much for decades! They were a bunch of Rip Van Winkles on anything other than the Presidency.

They're finally waking up, though! THANK GOD. Because THAT is where WE need to build. You start at the local level - school board, alderman, city council, county council, and build from there. You dominate there. And then you grow it - FROM THERE.

And you don't stop there, either. You invade and take over at the state government level. That's why so many state legislatures are more or mostly red. THAT'S where the trouble REALLY starts. That's why so many governors' mansions belong to the bad guys right now. That's where these state measures on voter suppression start. That's where the action is on efforts to force somebody's religion down the throats of everybody else in business or otherwise. That's where the trouble begins for LGBTQ rights, and for gun safety, and for water quality issues, and for renters' rights. That's where the restrictions on screwing the poor and the needy and the disabled first flower. Our team put most of that on ignore.

And that's where we NEED to build strength. The bad guys need just a handful of additional governorships (four, I think) for them to be able to hold a Constitutional Convention and REALLY change things for the worse.

WE HAVE TO GET BUSY! And anybody with friends in Montana - did you call them or message them to remind them to vote tomorrow? (For Rob Quist?) It'd mean a lot and say a lot to flip that seat to blue! Make Paul Ryan reach for the Maalox bottle! Send him another DEMOCRAT where there used to be a CON!

Mostly, because i'm an Election Judge tomorrow.
My 91 year old Mother voted by mail three weeks ago. She didn't want to die before she could vote for a Democrat one more time. My guess is that she will vote in the 2018 election.
