Import-bashing Trump has long admired Germany's automotive industry

WASHINGTON — What's the German word for someone who drives foreign cars then complains about imports?
President Trump spent the last week bashing Germany for its big trade surplus with the U.S. and threatening action to curtail its edge in exporting cars to America. But he's long shown a preference for German-made autos.
"My favorite car is a Mercedes. I've had one for a long time, and it's reliable, elegant, and sturdy all at once," Trump wrote in his 2004 book “Think Like a Billionaire,” singing the praises of the German-owned car company.
"I have no complaints about my Mercedes. It's never disappointed me. The cars are not temperamental, and they make my life easier. Mercedes cars are also great because they are classy without being ostentatious. I also have a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, and a bunch of other cars in different places," Trump continued.
That strong praise is hard to square with his recent attacks against Germany's auto industry.....................
