Forty-one states have refused Kobach's request for voter information
Source: CNN
Forty-one states have defied the Trump administration's request for private voter information, according to a CNN inquiry to all 50 states.
State leaders and voting boards across the country have responded to the letter with varying degrees of cooperation -- from altogether rejecting the request to expressing eagerness to supply information that is public.
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, vice chairman of the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity, which Trump created by executive order in May, sent a letter to all 50 states last Wednesday requesting a bevy of voter data, which he notes will eventually be made available to the public.
That information sought included registrants' full names, addresses, dates of birth, political parties, the last four digits of their social security numbers, a list of the elections they voted in since 2006, information on any felony convictions, information on whether they were registered to vote in other states, their military status, and whether they lived overseas.

(5,730 posts)get along well, for the most part. DT had to sneak out the back door od the convention center when he spoke here because there was so much uproar
Since we are a Medicare expansion stare, LOTS of people could lose insurance. A poor state, but we do have oil, gas, art, and film

(10,495 posts)This has to have a chilling effect on voter registration, something Kobach would be in favor of.

(32,620 posts)Once they give over their voter registration data, there's no going back.
There's no way to protect the privacy of their citizens' data either, because it will be all over the internet.
This should be fought in court, and I'm sure that federal judges would strike it down if it did go to court.
The White House has no legal precedent for this, and it's information they're aren't entitled to have.
Even the RED states are in agreement on this.

(32,620 posts)They want to match up our social security # with name, address, party affiliation and voting record.
So with a very short search they can seek out all Democratic voters who are also receiving government benefits, or Medicare, etc.
What do you think they'd do with that info?
hughee99
(16,113 posts)The federal government may have the info, but the state still controls the voter rolls. The federal government can't direct states to remove people from the rolls, nor can they decide who gets benefits based on their party affiliation.
I don't have any problem with the states telling Trump to fuck off, but I don't believe the danger is anywhere close to what it is being portrayed as.

Would they be ok with giving it to all political parties?
The Democrats, the Nazis, Russia, the Libertarians?
Well, if you give it to the Republicans, it's already going to the Nazis and Russia.
Yeah! Yeah! They have a legal right to it?
Should they?
