Russian lawyer said she was summoned to Trump Jr. meeting

WASHINGTON (AP) — A Russian lawyer who met with Donald Trump’s eldest son during the presidential campaign said she was summoned to Trump Tower and asked if she had damaging information on Hillary Clinton, painting a very different picture of the encounter from the one that Donald Trump Jr. has described.

Trump Jr. has said his June 2016 meeting with attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya was arranged through an acquaintance so that he could hear information helpful to the Trump campaign. Distancing himself from the source of the information, he has said he didn’t even know the name of the person he was to meet with in advance.

The dueling depictions of the meeting, arranged just after Trump had clinched the Republican nomination, come as congressional committees and Special Counsel Robert Mueller investigate whether Trump campaign associates and Russia coordinated to tip the election in Trump’s favor. Though neither Veselnitskaya nor Trump Jr. has described the meeting as fruitful, it'll likely be dissected by investigators trying to determine whether collusion took place.

In an interview that aired Tuesday on NBC’s ‘‘Today,’’ Veselnitskaya said she received a phone call from a man she didn’t know and was told to meet with Trump Jr. She said she didn’t have information on the Clinton campaign and has never worked for the Russian government..................

federal law.

"No person shall knowingly solicit, accept or receive from a foreign national any contribution or donation," reads Title 11 in the Code of Federal Regulations, section 110.20 (g). A contribution can be "anything of value," including negative information about a political opponent.

Veselnitskaya said she received a phone call from a man she didn’t know and was told to meet with Trump Jr - not credible.

Trump Jr. say his "acquaintance" wanted him to hear information helpful to the Trump campaign from a person he was to meet with but would not be told her name in advance of the meeting - not credible.

Nobody here is credible at face value. They all have reasons to lie and blame the other.

Goldstone (or someone else) may have been playing both sides.

on face value, the statement by the Russian lawyer could easily be true in that she got a call from someone she didn't know. But what may be left out could also be the fact that she should expect a call from someone about meeting with a Trump (Jr.) and that it will coincide with her time in NYC. In that meeting, she was to let the Trump campaign know, in person and from the Kremlin, that they are fully behind Trump.

Goldstone, through Agaralov, knew that he could set this up with Trump Jr. from their association with the Ms. Universe Pageant. It also seems somewhat ironic that in the midst of the hustle and bustle of a Presidential campaign, Jr., Jared and Manifort all were able to clear their schedule for someone they didn't know on a topic that they didn't know about.

Goldstone was just the scheduler in my opinion.
