Olympics in 2024 & 2028: Paris & Los Angeles get Games as IOC backs dual host announcement
Source: BBC
Paris and Los Angeles are set to stage the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games - provided they can agree which should go first, as both want to host in 2024.
The International Olympic Committee has voted in favour of naming hosts for successive Games on 13 September with just Paris and Los Angeles bidding.
The IOC - which oversees the Olympic movement - wants the cities to reach an agreement on who hosts in 2028 by then.
If there is no agreement, a vote to select just the 2024 host will be held.

(3,569 posts)But it isn't exactly comfy. Benches for one thing. Concessions, access , egress, walkways, lack of handicapped areas, the steep, long climbs... I love the place, but it is not comfortable by any stretch.

(21,600 posts)My guess is that Paris will host the 2024 games, considering they hosted them in 1924 (the 'Chariots of Fire' games).
On the other hand Athens was widely expected to host the 1996 games for the same centennial reason - until Mrs. Samaranch's $15,000 Atlanta shopping spree.

(6,383 posts)The Olympic facilities in LA weren't abandoned. Add to that, there are newer facilities such as Staples Center and soon to be new stadium in Inglewood. Good chance that LA is again one of the few Olympics that make money off them.

(55,445 posts)7-8 megacities with the infrastructure already in place to host... No more building 60+ spanking new venues and an athlete dorm from the ground up that will be abandoned a week after closing ceremonies...
