House Republican pushes cuts for food stamps to pay for Trumps border wall

Source: Think Progress

During a CNN interview Wednesday morning, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said he’d like to slash food assistance for low-income Americans and Planned Parenthood funding to free up money for President Trump’s border wall.

King was responding to a question from CNN’s Alisyn Camerota about whether he’s “comfortable with providing $1.6 billion of taxpayer money — not from Mexico — to bill that wall?” On Tuesday, House Republicans signaled they may force a government shutdown unless Democrats agree to spend that amount on a physical border wall in the 2018 budget.

“Absolutely yes — and more,” King said. “And I’d throw another $5 billion on the pile, and I would find half of a billion of dollars of that right out of Planned Parenthood’s budget. And the rest of it could come out of food stamps and the entitlements that are being spread out for people who have not worked in three generations.”

An incredulous Camerota pushed back.

If this is speaking to his (their) base - 'deplorable' doesn't even come close.

Build a wall around the whole fucking country.

Take away our health care.

Take away our food.

Take away our water.

Outlaw education.

Outlaw elections.

Divide us up by our skin color.

Let the police mow us down in the streets.

Just let the evil, fucking rich, entitled bastards have the whole damn country.

What exactly is the military protecting us from ???

I am so sick and disappointed by the EVIL and greedy bastards that are ruining this country !!!!!!!!!!

I can't imagine anything better to prove to the country that Republicans are incapable of governing, than shutting down the government when they control the House, the Senate, and the Presidency.

8. Way to look out for your constituants, you stupid f***er; you're from a Farming State.

Aside from the sheer petty, nasty cruelty of your proposal, you have no clue about how your state economy works.
Food Stamps help most of big Agri-business in your state. The primary business driver for your state. Unless you honestly think the rest of the world is going to put up with your party's schizophrenic Trade Policy and buy your state's monocrop commodities of corn, soybeans, beef, and bacon, all those nice, Christian Farm families making it off Subsidies and the businesses they support are going to go under even quicker than they already are.

You can't keep fooling your bigoted "constituency" that keeps voting against their interests once you start attacking their comfort zone. They're starting to realize cutting social services doesn't mean just cutting the social services of those nasty "urban" people you dog-whistle against. Even though right now, it's just a grumbling as they see their own safety nets, their businesses, their family health and wellbeing are on your Neo-Liberal chopping block.

“You want to take food from people who are on the lowest rung in terms of the nation’s safety net and their children, in terms of food stamps — you’re happy to take money from them ...?”

“Absolutely yes — and more,” Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said.

10. Entitlements?

"And the rest of it could come out of food stamps and the entitlements that are being spread out for people who have not worked in three generations.”

Entitlement...like is that when you get paid an exorbitant salary with fantastic perks to bad mouth the poor?

Hey Steve,
Exactly what have you done work wise since 1996 when you began "working" for all Americans? It really looks to me as though you have done nothing for a generation yourself...except work a few unproductive months year, get entitled for, what, 5 months vacation a per year, have the best health care American's money can buy you, eat at the expense of those same poor Americans you claim are "entitled" to some excess cheese and milk from Ryan's constituents, send your kids to school (using your House 'expense' accounts), and line the pockets of your corporate comrades...Oh I could go on but please tell us what you've accomplished for me since you've been in Congress. What can you show you've actually done for Americans? It can't be that hard to put together (all - some - any?) of your accomplishments, can it?
Show us you're not a hypocrite.

Should I hold my breath?

11. We REALLY need to increase the taxpayer allotment to Planned Parenthood to $150 billion
Thu Jul 13, 2017, 12:35 AM

There are 293 Republicans currently infesting both houses of Congress. Each one of them wants to cut a half-billion out of Planned Parenthood's budget to pay for whatever they want, be it a tax cut or the Trumperlin Wall. If every one of them gets their way, Planned Parenthood needs $146.5 billion just for that. So...we crank PP's allotment to $150B, the pukes take back all but $3.5 billion, and everyone's happy.
