Donald Trump heads to Paris today for France's annual Bastille Day commemorations, with protesters declaring "no go areas" for the US President.
Activists plan to gather at the famous Place de la Republique, ahead of main event on Friday which President Trump will attend alongside his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

But there are fears the visit could be overshadowed by people demonstrating against Trump's policies on climate change and immigration, as well as Macron's own plans to loosen labour laws.
A group called Paris Against Trump has used social media to send out the message that he is not welcome - and security will be intense in a city which has seen a series of terrorist attacks in recent years.

the Trump administration attempts to deflect questions from the press regarding Donald Trump Jr.'s controversial meeting during last year's campaign with a Russian lawyer, the president himself has kept a relatively low profile ahead of a scheduled trip to France this weekbut the French aren't expected to give him a warm welcome as hundreds of demonstrators plan to form a "No Trump Zone" in Paris, where they will march in protest of Trump's visit and his policies.
.....................................
The group "Paris Against Trump" is behind the plans for a "No Trump Zone" in the Place de la Republique in the center of Paris. As the group wrote on Facebook, "Trump is not welcome in Paris. We are opposed to his positions on the climate crisis, his international politics against migrants, his sexist speeches and behavior, his Islamophobia and racist remarks, his military plans around the world and his neo-liberalism and capitalism."
Trump will apparently not be able to escape Americans who disapprove of him, as the organizers have said the group will include "an American contingent."
.................
Trump is unpopular across Europe. A recent Pew poll found that only 14 percent of French citizens have confidence in his ability to lead, with similar approval ratings throughout the continent...................

(23,338 posts)Sadly, the storming of the Bastille was one more step in the undoing of the very, very, awesome and wonderful leader, Louis XVI. He was a great king, you wouldn't believe how great he was, let me tell you. And his wife, Marie Antoinette, what a great wife, beautiful, and had a deep appreciation of cake. And it was a great cake, let me tell you. Then those no-goods, they aren't even real people, they ruined everything, bigly. Sad.

......Mr Trump is to be the guest of honour at Friday's military parade on the Champs-Elysees - the first time a US President had attended since George Bush in 1989.
More protests are planned for the day, including socialist and anti-racist activists marching from the Place de Clichy.
Security will be intense for the duration of Mr Trump's stay, which comes after a string of Isis-linked terror attacks in France including a recent attempt near Notre-Dame cathedral.
Crowds marking Bastille Day - a national holiday - were targeted by an Isis supporter who killed 86 people in Nice last year.
Mr Macron will be travelling to the southern city for commemorations following the end of engagements with Mr Trump.
