Kushner pushed for more aggressive defense of Trump Jr. meeting

Source: Politico

Jared Kushner has been pressing other White House aides to more vigorously defend the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Kremlin-linked lawyer that Kushner also attended, but has faced resistance from some of Trump’s top press aides, according to six sources familiar with the matter.

Four White House officials and two outside advisers say Kushner wants the White House to more aggressively push out surrogates and talking points to change the narrative around the latest twist in the Russia scandal. Kushner has said the meeting, which has also further dragged him into the controversy, has a direct impact on Trump's presidency, even if Trump wasn't aware of it at the time.

But some of the communications aides, including press secretary Sean Spicer, and other senior staffers have expressed reservations. They say it’s best to leave it to outside counsel to handle the furor around Trump Jr., and fear inviting further legal jeopardy if Trump aides and allies more forcefully defend a meeting that they don’t fully know the details of, according to the sources.

The disagreement over strategy illustrates the White House’s ongoing struggle to cope with a quickly evolving scandal that has engulfed Trump’s early presidency. West Wing aides have had little control as Trump himself has appeared to exacerbate the Russia controversy, including by firing FBI Director James Comey. Some top advisers have also been blindsided by new developments, such as the Russian lawyer meeting during the height of the campaign.

almost as much of a douche as his father-in-law, and definitely worse than Don Jr., who is nasty but dumb. Kushner is also probably smarter than Dolt 45, so he's more dangerous. I hope they nail his sleazy ken-doll ass to the wall.

I think that's the only way in which he's smarter. Other than that he's as dumb as they come.
Kushner has been through this before when his own dad went to jail, courtesy of Chris Christie.

Kushy's dushy is on fire and his neck is in serious legal jeopardy.

Of someone tosses Don Jr. a life preserver it might also save Kushy from drowning in the same pool of illicit palace intrigue too.

* and plenty of Republican party.

They even had the Russians get visas for some other business and slipped them into this 'meeting' without listing the meeting ON their visa as reason for the visa.

That IS a crime to get a visa and lie about why one wants a visa?

all IMO.

To me, it looks like the RepubliCONS are going "all in" - a poker term meaning they're betting everything they have - on Trump.

There's a few RepubliCONS making some meaningless noise in Congress, but they'd all fall into line when they needed to. Their complaints are to make their constituents think they're doing their due diligence, but it's all much ado about nothing.

Either the GOP already KNOWS the United States, as we know it, has been subjected to a successful coup d'état, or they honestly believe that because they're in control of EVERYTHING, they can get away with breaking as many laws as they want and NO ONE can do anything about it. I sincerely hope I'm wrong about this, because if I'm not........we're all fucked. It's over.

The Russian lawyer that they met with in this meeting is tied to a case of Russian money laundering in New York that was investigated for three years and then suddenly dropped just before it went to trial recently.

It would have exposed the practices used in New York real estate and been very embarrassing for the Russians and at a time when Trump is being investigated to see if he or his family have been involved in any similar deals it would have benefited them to not have all of this dragged out into a public court room.

This connection needs to be hammered by the media, how do we know that there wasn't discussion about this and a deal made?
