OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A white Oklahoma police officer recently acquitted of fatally shooting an unarmed black man submitted her resignation from the Tulsa police department Friday, saying the desk job where she had been assigned made her feel isolated from fellow officers.

Officer Betty Shelby's resignation is effective Aug. 3, according to a news release from the Tulsa branch of a national police union. She also said she was praying for healing for the family of Terence Crutcher, who died after she opened fire in September.

"As I have stated before, the incident with Terence Crutcher was a tragedy for everyone involved, and I am sorry he lost his life," Shelby said. "I will continue to pray for the unity of our community, the safety of our citizens and our police officers."

Tulsa police spokesman Sgt. Shane Tuell said it's not clear whether the police chief has received Shelby's letter, adding that he couldn't comment until that document is in hand.

My heart just aches for your situation.

You're getting some of what you deserve. To bad you aren't in prison.

think of how Terence Crutcher's family feels.

We need a national police registry to keep the police revolving door closed.

Any law enforcement officer who kills an unarmed suspect needs to have their employment reviewed and potentially terminated as they lack the skill to defuse a tense situation, whether they are acquitted or not.

'and I am sorry he lost his life,"

No. Not quite, Betty. Try again. Say : 'And I am sorry that I took his life ;' and if you really want 'to push the boat out', you could add : 'particularly since he was innocent of any crime to my knowledge (assuming he was not guilty of the presumed crime).'

as did Yanez, who shot Castille in St. Paul.

Perhaps police officers should be trained on how to recognize life threatening situations and how to handle it before you pump bullets in a black man. Why not tased him first?

And then, of course, we have the two U.S. Capitol officers David Bailey and Crystal Griner who actually went toward the shooter of Scalise.
