Trumps Approval Stands at 50 Percent in the Counties That Fueled His Win

Source: NBC News

President Donald Trump's job approval rating in the American counties that fueled his 2016 victory stands at 50 percent, according to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll of these "Trump counties."

Fifty percent of adults in these counties — consisting of Republicans, Democrats and independents — approve of the president's job performance (including 29 percent who strongly approve), while 46 percent disapprove (including 35 percent who do so strongly).

of "buyers' remorse". Sort of like Germans not wanting to admit they were Nazis after the surrender of WWII. They made a poor choice and know they will be judged for their decision that had a very big impact on the rest of the world. I'd be ashamed to admit that I voted for Trump; I could see by continuing to support him, nobody could see my shame.

I live with and know these people.

The evil liberal boogyman rises above all.

My family has long standing JFK Democratic roots that have been totally reversed over the last three decades by right wing propaganda.

Just spoke to a cousin yesterday, poor 45, the media just does not give him a break.

My inlaws are long standing republicans. They don't even like 45, but ... liberals.

There is a reason the republicans are actively looking to blow up our health care system, we have a POTUS who is clearly Putin's hand puppet, who says and tweets the grotesque things he does and 50%+ of the country either does not care one thinks "they are both the same."

We can get the pee tape, we can have a video of Putin walking 45 around on a dog leash smacking him with a whip, and 1/3 of the country would obediently say "but, the liberal ..." and another 1/3 would burp and think, 'both the same."

All Trump Counties: 50% Approve, 46% Disapprove
Just Flip Counties: 44% Approve, 51% Disapprove
Just Surge Counties: 56% Approve, 40% Disapprove

Flip counties voted for President Obama in 2012 52% to 47%, but Trump won them 51% to 43%.
Surge counties voted for Romney 53% to 45%, but Trump won them 65% to 31%.

So Trump is still doing better than Romney in the surge counties even after 6 months of scandal.

His numbers seem to be dropping everywhere. Presumably, his poll numbers are also dropping in counties where Hilary won.

This poll is really important because it is one of the few that looks at approval regionally rather than nationally (which, as we found out during the election, is sort of not relevant to electoral success).

Has it gone down? NBC/WSJ won't say.
Has Trump's winning-county approval gone from 90% to 50%, for instance? We are not told.

By the way, I never saw a poll buttress Obama's number by using "counties that fueled his victory" statistic.

just sayin'
there will come a time beyond which the public will blame 45 and his GOP accomplices for the various disasters which befall us, rather than rallying behind him for leadership during a crisis. past that point, he'll need something really big, like 2nd Korean war big, to pump his party's numbers in 2018.

And these numbers are critical - since electoral college is all that matters when electing a president. National polls don't matter in those elections.

that changing public opinion takes time. Like an arrow pointer, he's on the downswing which is great news. Re-polling in a few months should show this same group going well below 50%, much of it his fault and the rest the anger his supporters have shown to Republican efforts to take away their health care. All the news of late where voters in red states have stormed meetings to protest their ACA repeal efforts are also real.
