Shells hit Russian embassy compound in Syria

Source: aljazeera

Syrian state media say shells have hit the Russian embassy in Damascus causing material damage. State news agency SANA said two shells were fired at the Russian embassy on Sunday, one hitting the compound while the other fell nearby.

Syrian rebels in the suburbs of the capital have previously struck the Russian embassy. Moscow is a strong supporter of President Bashar Assad and has been involved in the six-year war since September 2015.

The attack in Damascus came hours after a bomb exploded near a hospital in the rebel-held north-western city of Idlib wounding five people. The Syrian Civil Defence group, more popularly known as the White Helmets, said the wounded included two children.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also said five were wounded including children.

Some incidents are background noise.

Some incidents are foregrounded enough to matter but can be finessed.

Some incidents are deal breakers.

In this case, what matters is how it's going to be presented in Russia. Will it be presented as an indignation to be avenged, or an indignation which, in its being overlooked, shows how glorious Russia is and what scoundrels the rebels are.

Perhaps it'll be blamed on ISIS, which wanted to destroy the cease fire. Perhaps on a Kurdish group. Or on somebody else.
