McCain Urges GOP To Hold Hearings, Listen To Dem Input On Health Care

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published JULY 18, 2017 7:04 AM

After the Senate bill to repeal and replace Obamacare faltered Monday night with two more senators coming out against the bill, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) urged the Senate GOP to hold hearings on health care and work with Democrats to replace the Affordable Care Act.

“One of the major problems with Obamacare was that it was written on a strict party-line basis and driven through Congress without a single Republican vote. As this law continues to crumble in Arizona and states across the country, we must not repeat the original mistakes that led to Obamacare’s failure,” he said in a statement. “The Congress must now return to regular order, hold hearings, receive input from members of both parties, and heed the recommendations of our nation’s governors so that we can produce a bill that finally provides Americans with access to quality and affordable health care.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) does not appear to be taking the approach laid out by McCain. Late Monday night, he announced that he will push to bring the Hosue repeal bill to the floor and allow senators to vote on an amendment to repeal Obamacare with a two-year delay.

His. Very. First. Sentence.

It took A YEAR to get the ACA (Obamacare) out of committee; not a mere 74-days where Republicans held closed-door meetings, were sworn to secrecy, who refused to release a draft of the bill because: “We’re not stupid!" Democrats and more than a few Republicans were excluded in ANY discussions of the bill.

A whopping 210 Amendments to Obamacare were proposed between 2009 and 2010, 161 of them from - Republicans. Of those 161, only 49 were rejected; 112 (60%) were made part of the bill. That's pretty damn good for a minority party. Democrats incorporated core GOP planks, and scuttled the most popular concept for its base of Democratic voters - the public option.

With all that - the bill got ZERO Republican votes when it passed out of committee, and ZERO votes on the floor of the Senate. They voted against THEIR OWN AMENDMENTS! And "Maverick" was right in there for all of it.

For the Reich-wing, each and every day history begins anew.

To quote Shepard Smith: "Why all these lies? Why is it lie after lie after lie?

“One of the major problems with Obamacare was that it was written on a strict party-line basis and driven through Congress without a single Republican vote ... "

Bullshit. Flatout bullshit. Seventeen months of working with health care professionals, insurance companies, even input from regular everyday citizens. The Rethugs were invited repeatedly to come to the table, Yertle refused to come out of his shell and work with the black man.

What the Rethugs are doing to this country is atrocious, bordering on tyranny. McGrampy (along with all the other old white guys) to retire collect his pension and STFU. I won't hold my breath and wish some one will grow a conscious, but it would be nice if his constituients, all snowbirds, would get in his face.
