Kobach Says Democrats' Letter Calling For His Firing Is 'Ridiculous'

Source: Talking Points Memo

By CAITLIN MACNEAL Published JULY 19, 2017 8:56 AM

After a group of Democratic House members on Tuesday penned a letter to Vice President Mike Pence calling on him to fire Kris Kobach as vice chair of the bogus “election integrity” commission, Kobach hit back in a CNN interview Wednesday morning, calling the letter “ridiculous.”

“They allege that somehow I’m not qualified because I’ve pointed out widespread voter fraud in my own state of Kansas,” Kobach told CNN’s Chris Cuomo, claiming that he has found evidence that non-citizens have tried to vote in Kansas.

Kobach also said that Democrats’ concern that the commission is merely an attempt to suppress the vote is a “ludicrous argument.”

Cuomo said that Kobach wants to change voting requirements in the U.S. so that people must show proof of citizenship and noted that some are concerned that Kobach is using the commission to advance his own agenda, which “could be construed as voter suppression.”

9. Very unfortunately, no. ACLU calls Kobach "King of voter suppression,"

in discussing this, though I imagine there are a number of contenders. But their efforts haven't been wasted at all. They're doing appallingly well.

From the national ACLU's site:

********************
"Kris Kobach, the ‘King of Voter Suppression,’ Will Lead Trump’s Sham Voter Fraud Commission. Be Afraid, Very Afraid.

I sat down with Dale Ho, director of the ACLU Voting Rights Project, to discuss the potential impact of the commission and what Americans can do to protect one of the most fundamental rights in our democracy. Below is a slightly edited version of our conversation.

What was your first thought when the news broke today about President Trump’s executive order on election integrity?

Dale Ho: That this was the first step in a plan to suppress voting in this country. There is no evidence that we have a problem with election integrity. You can tell that this is a sham commission just by the appointment of Kris Kobach, someone who has devoted much of his professional life to suppressing the vote, to vice-chair. It’s a circus show, designed to undermine confidence in our system and to reach a pre-determined result and to justify laws that make it harder for people to register and vote as a result."

administration's help, this asshole Kobach is trying to justify his voter disenfranchising witch hunt as "election integrity"?

This clown should be fired and his "commission" dissolved.

This is nothing more than a naked power grab being organized by tyrants.

Chris it isn't because you think you have uncovered a great voter fraud scheme, it the fact that you are actually unqualified for anything, much less an open checkbook with a plan to invade our privacy into registered voters.

That's plenty sufficient reason for him not to be on this panel. Only issue is criminal Drumpf has no issue with illegal vote suppression and so picked the man who's been the face of voter suppression for the last few years.
