Paul says president likely has authority to pardon himself

Source: The Hill

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 07/23/17 10:43 AM EDT

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he thinks President Trump can pardon himself.

Paul was asked on CNN's "State of the Union" if he thinks the president has the authority to pardon himself. "I think in all likelihood he does," Paul said.

"I think that some of this hasn't been adjudicated." His comments come after President Trump tweeted tweeted on Saturday about his "complete" authority to pardon.

"While all agree the U. S. President has the complete power to pardon, why think of that when only crime so far is LEAKS against us," Trump tweeted.

Paul still supports repealing, replacing ObamaCare at the same time

BY REBECCA SAVRANSKY - 07/23/17 10:09 AM EDT

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on Sunday said he still supports repealing and replacing ObamaCare at the same time.

During an interview on CNN's "State of the Union," Paul was asked about his comments earlier this year, when he said it would be a mistake for Republicans not to vote for replacement on the same day as repeal.

"I still like that guy from January and I still agree with him," Paul said about his past comments. "Really, I've always been talking about replace at the same time. The problem is, Republicans can't seem to agree on what replacement means."

Paul said he thought Republicans agreed on what replacement meant, but found out many didn't.

"If we could do both at the same time, absolutely I'm still for that," he said. "I can even say you can do it in separate bills. I'm looking for a way to get this done."

Or maybe at Baylor, where Kenneth Starr was kicked out of the President's chair for "failing to respond to reports of rape and sexual assault".

set up a system of checks and balances. That is why there is a separation of powers. In addition, the act of a pardon implies someone else doing the pardoning

This is the kind of garbage the people of Kentucky elected?

It makes no sense at all that they would then approve of a president threatening to kill anyone in congress who tries to impeach him and actually personally killing a few of them just to make his point, and then pardon himself.

That's why they railed against Ken Starr's malicious efforts against the president. Waste of time and money because bill Clinton could and should pardon himself. The presidency shouldn't be the target of a witch hunt.

Oh wait, that never happened. My bad.

Their biggest gripe is that written rule of law, including the Constitution, constrains individual liberties.

His opinion stinks like the southern end of a northbound bull.

Impeachment is taking him to trial and it's the way out of any question, any legal battle about whether he can dodge responsibility for his actions.

if they will assist him or something worse than that impeachment will not be on the table while the Repungnants have any ability to oppose it and sadly the soonest we could prevent that would be 2020 and thats only if we control the House and have something like 68 or 70 seats in the Senate.

Lyin Ryan is SO complicit in this Russia scandal. He benefitted from Russian meddling, as did many R's. He's on audio swearing people to secrecy about this "as a joke" of course.

This is gonna get ugly.

I think it's highly unlikely pardons will help 45.

If 45 tries to pardon himself or his associates, there will IMMEDIATELY be federal suits filed arguing he does not. Mueller is not going to stop until those suits are resolved, which will take years. In the meantime, Muller will release all his dirt. And that will take the president down.

However, firing Mueller may slow down the investigation.

Therefore, I predict 45 will try to fire Mueller in the next 5 weeks.
(p.s. have a plan if Mueller is fired. What will you do?)

But he simply flashed that double-V salute one last time and flew off in a helicopter, leaving Ford to hold the proverbial pardon bag.
