Collins to Trump: "Step back," don't comment on special counsel's probe

Source: MSN/CBS News

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, says President Donald Trump needs to "step back" and not comment on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

"I understand how difficult and frustrating this investigation is for the president. But he should not say anything further about the special counsel, his staff or the investigation," Collins said Sunday on CBS News' "Face the Nation."

"I know it's hard, but he needs to step back and not comment, and let Bob Mueller who is an individual with the utmost integrity, carry out the investigation and make his determination," she added.

Collins' remarks follow comments Mr. Trump made in an interview with The New York Times about the Russia probe. He said he felt it was unfair for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from the Russia investigation, and that Sessions should have told Mr. Trump if he was going to recuse himself before he accepted the position.

Susan Collins must be a glutton for punishment. She has so much seniority, yet she lets GOP leadership exclude her and other Republican women from healthcare talks, she gets death threats from Trump's minions, yet she is still a very reliable vote for McConnell and company.

republicans are betraying America by giving russia's ongoing "acts of war*" a "it's all OK" pass. Ultimately, submissive republicans are giving cover to the destruction of the USA by russia and its plant in the White House, the republican Draft-Dodger-in-Chief, Comrade Casino.

I love the way she's talking to him like he's a third grader. "I understand this is difficult for you. But you have to put your big-boy pants on and use your indoor voice."

Although Collins is one of the senators who is most independent of the Koch GOP billionaire donor money, she's still afraid of a multimillion dollar attack ad campaign.

Collins has an independent rep in Maine. Voters know her. The Koches don't completely control her like they control most GOP senators like Toomey and Rubio and McConnell. But the Koches can still hurt her. That's what makes her vote with McConnell.
