Politics Analysis Senators on hot mic: Trump is crazy, Im worried
Source: Washington Post
At the end of a Senate subcommittee hearing on Tuesday morning, Chairman Susan Collins (R-Maine) didnt switch off her microphone. Apparently speaking to Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), the ranking Democrat of the committee, Collins discussed the federal budget and President Trumps lack of familiarity with the details of governing.
...snip...
I swear, [the Office of Management and Budget] just went through and whenever there was grant, they just X it out, Collins says. With no measurement, no thinking about it, no metrics, no nothing. Its just incredibly irresponsible.
Yes, Reed replies. I think I think hes crazy, apparently referring to the president. I mean, I dont say that lightly and as a kind of a goofy guy.
Im worried, Collins replies.

(4,074 posts)He is a narcissistic, misogynistic, sociopathic, con man who is pretty stupid in regards to, well, most things. But he is not crazy. He knows exactly what he is doing. Which is what is going to get him convicted.

(2,770 posts)and if I'm reading this correctly, it was Reed who used the word "crazy," not Collins.

(4,341 posts)is the fact that it was obvious during the campaign that the guy is evil and crazy, and they still talk about "he hasn't come up with a plan on (fill the blank)", I mean...do you really expect this ignorant buffoon to come up with anything that makes sense, doesn't hurt people and doesn't make a profit for him and his family? Please stop...

(24,128 posts)From Reed:
Youve got [Budget Director Mick] Mulvaney saying were going to put in all sorts of stuff like a border wall. Then youve got [Treasury Secretary Steve] Mnuchin saying its got to be clean, Reed continues. Were going to be back in September, and, you know, youre going to have crazy people in the House.
Reference to clean?
Reference to September?

(49,945 posts)I assume September refers to the timeline of final budget negotiations. Oct 1 is the beginning of the fiscal year.

(6,496 posts)but she is not a Trump supporter and she never has been. Democrats should be more supportive of Republicans who speak out against Trump.
Also, Collins is going to be one of few senate Republicans who will vote against the Senate health care bill. Collins really takes crap from everyone (dems and repubs) and she still does a pretty good job. She is actually a reasonable person, which seems to be rare these days. Collins has also never missed a vote in her whole senate career, which started in 1997.
I'm hoping she stays on as senator. Asshole LePage has said he'd like to run for US Senate. God, he would be a horrid senator. I just want that man to go away after he terms out as gov at the beginning of 2019. She might quit and run for Maine gov. I think she would be a good gov, but I think she has a lot of clout in the US Senate that she just shouldn't give up and also I don't want a dip shit like Paul LePage getting in there instead.
