Trump talks privately about the idea of a recess appointment to replace Sessions
Source: MSN/Washington Post
President Trump has discussed with confidants and advisers in recent days the possibility of installing a new attorney general through a recess appointment if Jeff Sessions leaves the job, but he has been warned not to move to push him out because of the political and legal ramifications, according to people briefed on the conversations.
Still raging over Sessionss recusal from the Justice Departments escalating Russia investigation, Trump has been talking privately about how he might replace Sessions and possibly sidestep Senate oversight, four people familiar with the issue said.
Two of those people, however, described Trump as musing about the idea rather than outlining a plan of action, and a senior White House official said no action is imminent. Several people familiar with the discussions said that Trumps fury peaked over the weekend and that he and Sessions now seem to be heading toward an uneasy detente.
When asked Wednesday about the presidents discussions of a recess appointment, the White House released a one-sentence denial from Trump: More fake news from the Amazon Washington Post. The Washington Post is owned by Jeffrey P. Bezos, the founder and chief executive of Amazon.

If Trump can handpick a loyalist who is not merely a rightwing nut, but is willing to serve as Trump's hatchet man against his personal enemies, then there is really no limit to what Trump can do. He can prosecute his political enemies, offer virtual immunity to his friends, and manipulate enforcement of election laws. We are on the precipice of a police state.

(32,620 posts)Nobody with a law degree will accept his job offer. (Not even Giuliani.) Nobody will pass the "loyalty" sniff test.
Even if he did find somebody - they'll never be approved by the Senate because they can't possibly be acceptable.
If Cheeto fires Sessions, he is S.O.L. - shit out of luck.
Let the games begin.

(27,813 posts)... like a man who is desperate to shut-down any investigation into his collusion with Russians - even if that shut-down includes throwing his staunchest supporter under the bus.
What's laughable (and there is little about Idiot Boy that isn't laughable) is his delusion that getting rid of anyone will stop the investigations full stop.
No matter what, the truth WILL out - and Idiot Boy is far too stupid to know that. But what can you expect from a man who thinks the French army froze to death in Russia because Napoleon was involved in "extra-curricular activities" that night and couldn't show up to save them?
I am still reeling from the idea that this dumb-as-a-bag-of-rocks jerk-off wound up in the White House. If people who are as dumb as he is weren't allowed to vote, he would have gotten less than 1% of the vote.

(17,387 posts)...where is the check with a Republican Congress that is willing to standby and support him? Trump can offer Republicans guaranteed seats with a DOJ that aggressively suppresses the vote through voter ID laws and criminal investigations against political enemies. Finally, with Fox News and right wing media, Trump will have media cover such that 30 to 40 percent of the population will continue to support his efforts to move us toward a police state in the name of law and order.
