Thanks to Kossack Straights of Dire, Rachel Maddows email address: Rachel@msnbc.com . Email her!
She got no standing ovation. She got no mainstream media lauds for her heroism. She got no kudos for leaving home, a much longer journey than that other senator, the one from Arizona, to get to DC, and there are no mainstream media stories on it that I can find
I only found out from a friend who spotted it on Twitter.
She didnt do it for publicity.
Senator Mazie Hirono of Hawaii was just doing her job as a good politician, voting not to repeal the ACA so as to protect her constituents. She has Stage Four kidney cancer that means scarce chances of survival is recovering from a second surgery to remove part of a rib, and made sure she got to her seat in the Senate Chamber to vote no to whatever Republican wealth-care crap was thrown at her.....................

(19,186 posts)I sent her an email. I hope she reads it, although I realize that's a long shot with everything going on in her life. I wish for a her a miracle......a miracle to release her from the terrible affliction from which she suffers. People such as she deserve miracles, but all too often it's the people who don't deserve them who are the recipients.
What a great woman!

Brava, Senator Hirono!

(15,532 posts)Why not? Because she's a woman.
I swear to God we need more women in Congress. We need a majority of women in Congress. I'm tired of the male pissing contests and the "mines bigger than yours" contests and the grandstanding with their big egos and getting absolutely nothing done. We need MORE WOMEN.
Now, having said that, what we don't need is women like Palin, etc. that the Repukes put out there to give the perception that they're not a bunch of sexist men running the party (aka token women). But overall women have more empathy and less ego and tend to be more collaborative.
