Intelligence chairman accuses Obama aides of hundreds of unmasking requests

Source: The Hill

The chairman of the House Intelligence Committee is accusing top political aides of President Obama of making hundreds of requests during the 2016 presidential race to unmask the names of Americans in intelligence reports, including Trump transition officials.

Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), in a letter to Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, said the requests were made without specific justifications on why the information was needed.

“We have found evidence that current and former government officials had easy access to U.S. person information and that it is possible that they used this information to achieve partisan political purposes, including the selective, anonymous leaking of such information,” Nunes wrote in the letter to Coats. The letter was provided to The Hill from a source in the intelligence community.

In March, Nunes disclosed that he had seen data suggesting Trump campaign and transition officials were having their names unmasked by departing officials in the Obama White House.

More connected to Portugal...The Nunes family is of Portuguese descent, immigrating from the Azores to California in the early 20th century, though Devin Nunes was born in California.

On 14 December 2012 it was announced that personnel at Lajes Field will be reduced in 2014 with a reduction of 400 military personnel and 500 family members. After these reductions about 900 military personnel and their family members will remain. Rep. Devin Nunes (R., Calif.) has questioned the studies that showed cost savings to be had from moving operations to England.

In 2015, Nunes argued with the Pentagon over a U.S. base in the Azores, Portugal. He proposed relocating Africa Command and European Command intelligence centers to the Azores, contrary to plans by Pentagon and NATO to create a larger intelligence "fusion" facility in the United Kingdom, maintaining that this would save money because of the Azores' lower living and construction costs. The Pentagon responded by stating "Moving to Lajes Field is very expensive and living is expensive as well.

Nunes is a Grand Officer of the Order of Prince Henry, Portugal (June 7, 2013) It is a five-tier order, whose titles are awarded for relevant services to Portugal and for services in the expansion of the Portuguese culture, its history and its values (with a particular focus on its maritime history).

Got another settlement to pay for killing workers in illegal sewage ponds? Or just pissed the Senate's getting the press and nobody gives a shit about you?

Since Nooner can't be bothered to justify his bullshit, Coats should send him to Cabela's for a better fishing rod. Maybe one of the 3 foot plastic ones meant for 6 year olds.

I am a chronic insomniac (since infancy; 40+ years). It's a combination of delayed sleep cycle and a circadian rhythm fault. I have to live with all y'all diurnal types, so I've been on sleep meds since I was a teenager. They work most of the time. But about once every 25-45 days, I have an overnight where I just don't sleep. One of the side effects of my insomnia is a minor case of hypergraphia, plus a shortened temper. (I know not to drive, play with power tools or cut fabric when I'm +24.) Last night was my overnight, so I'm at 38ish hours awake, and our HVAC is fubar'ed as of yesterday at about 4 pm (it's only in the 80s...). This is HVAC busy season, so.

I have a 2000 words per day output, but the novel series I'm working on does not need my sleep-deprivation clever. This always leads to 10K word outputs that need to be trimmed like kudzu and it's already got a bad case of The West Wing set in Westeros. (Which works for the story, since it's basically how to build a civil war when a complacent and mostly successful period of stability opens the doors for pearshaped political manipulation (though much more internal), but the parts I need to work on don't need more words, and the parts that need more words don't need me writing in this state.) Plus it's hot, plus OMG we are in the low probability universe. So I read, knobdicked here and on Twitter, sent my faxes, printed large format stuff for my teacher sibling, made phone calls.

But thanks. You've cooled my heart, which would be warmed if the weather was more temperate. TheFerret is more predictable in output, and my constitution writing, war-building, competency porn fantasy gets most of my words.

The Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee asked U.S. spy agencies late last year to reveal the names of U.S. individuals or organizations contained in classified intelligence on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, engaging in the same practice that President Trump has accused the Obama administration of abusing, current and former officials said.

Ergo, it's going to be quite difficult to PROVE, Mr. Nunes, that this was done with the specific purpose of 'politics' ...

Esp. when your own Compadre Burr has already thrown you under the bus and admitted you were full of crap re: this subject to begin with.

Y'all can keep trying to distract from the Congressional testimony on TrumpRussia going on this week, you weasel, but it's not going to work.

from running his own committee because he is a liar for Trump. He doesn't seem to get that if Trump transition officials were unmasked, it's because they had too many Russian buddies and they were lying about it. Their names are coming out now, and will continue to come out. The American people deserve to know if they criminally colluded with Putin to overthrow our government. We also deserve to know if Nunes is an accessory in the cover up.
