German nightclub shooting: Two dead in Konstanz

Source: BBC

A gunman has been shot dead by German police after opening fire at a nightclub in the city of Konstanz.

One person was killed and three seriously injured in the attack at about 04:30 (02:30 GMT) on Sunday.

The shooter targeted the Grey club in an industrial part of the city, on Max-Stromeyer-Strasse.

Police have ruled out a terrorist motive. A spokesperson told N-TV that the gunman was a 34-year-old Iraqi citizen, but not an asylum seeker.

...who has lived a long time in Germany, but is not an asylum seeker, did not commit a terrorist act (they say it was ruled out) but then upon reading further, it states that the ultimate motive remains unclear...

Huh? How can one rule out terrorism if the motive is unknown?

A gunman opened fire at a packed nightclub in southern Germany early Sunday, killing one and wounding four before being shot by police, authorities said, in an attack likely motivated by a personal feud.

The 34-year-old man, identified as an Iraqi national, "was critically injured in a shootout with police officers as he left the disco, and later succumbed to his wounds in hospital," police said in a statement.

"Investigations are ongoing into the background of the act, which was likely linked to a dispute in the attacker's personal life. There are no indications of a terror act," police added.

The foreign gunman was not an asylum seeker and has been living in the Constance region, which borders Switzerland, for 15 years.

The gunman who killed one person at a German nightclub was the Iraqi Kurdish son-in-law of the nightclub's owner, German authorities said.

He returned to the Grey nightclub in the southern city of Konstanz armed with an M16 machine gun after having been thrown out following an argument, a state prosecutor said.

The victim was a doorman. Several others were wounded including a police officer.

The gunman was killed by police.

As soon as they knew he was the son-in-law of the owner, you'd think 'not terrorism'; Kurds aren't likely to be terrorists in Germany either.

The older models used to be capable of full-auto firing. The newer M-16A2 can fire short 3-round bursts, but you can fire the bursts as fast as you can pull the trigger, and for as long as the ammo holds out.

I'm sure the gun-crazies would prefer to call it a machine gun. Calling an assault rifle an assault rifle just drives them berserk. (or, you know, more berserk than usual...)

This sadly happens and familial disputes, who knows.

But violence is violence and wrong and someone who went to work last night died because of just there doing his job...
