McCain Hits 'Poorly Informed,' 'Impulsive' Trump in New Op-Ed: We Are Not Your Subordinates

As John McCain prepares to return to the Senate next week, he penned an op-ed where he took multiple swings at President Trump.
The Arizona Senator wrote a piece for Washington Post where he laid out his thoughts about the countrys efforts to move forward from the racial nastiness in Charlottesville last month. McCain also expressed his concerns that hyper-partisan gridlock is thwarting Congress by creating a political atmosphere where compromise and cooperative problem-solving are impossible. As it were, McCain seemed to suggest a lot of the discord has to do with Trump:
We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities. We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We dont answer to him. We answer to the American people. We must be diligent in discharging our responsibility to serve as a check on his power. And we should value our identity as members of Congress more than our partisan affiliation.

Where's the talk of impeachment, and unobstructed
Senate invesigation that is open to the public?

(24,259 posts)pigs sprout wings and fly or the GOP decided to actually ACT like the 'Christian' followers of Jesus they espouse to be... but aren't.
I hope I'm wrong. I desperately want, and even need, to be but for McCain and other Republicans to finally move to impeach Trump would take the miracle of a huge 'come to Jesus' event that changes the hearts and minds the base they fear and their Corp owners.

(2,309 posts)While Trump is the most obvious example of Republican corruption and hypocrisy, McCain and other "mainstream" Republicans have been pushing this sort of crap for decades. From Nixon's Southern Strategy, to the numerous Reagan era indictments, to the fake weapons of mass destruction, to the multiple votes to repeal the ACA, McCain and mainstream Repubs were complicit. The Republican party is the party of racism, greed, and hate.

(60,006 posts)And -
"We must respect his authority" - why? If someone is doing harm, shouldn't one do everything to resist and work to remove him from power? Respect is earned. Trump has earned nothing. And as far as respecting someone doing horrible things who have authority - if a teacher is abusing children in a school do we have to respect the teacher's authority?
Flawed thinking from a reed that blows in the wind that bends toward his own self interest and the interest of his party only, with very, very rare and unusual, and few, exceptions.

(32,931 posts)but no, I don't think he'd take Russian graft. He just looked away when McConnell did.

(37,648 posts)I'm sure that was an oversight.
Also post the evidence that McConnell took Russian donations. I wouldn't put it past him, but I missed the story that sets forth that evidence.

(7,429 posts)Who did you support in the '16 campaign, Senator?
Which candidate did you recommend that your constituents vote for last November, Senator?
You can't really walk back your commitment to Trumpy. You dove in head-first. You can't claim ignorance. You knew and you know who he is.
You get no applause from me.

(37,648 posts)The Arizona senator and 2008 GOP presidential nominee, who is in a tight reelection battle, has announced he no longer supports Trump. I thought it important I respect the fact that Donald Trump won a majority of the delegates by the rules our party set, he said in a statement. But Donald Trumps behavior this week, concluding with the disclosure of his demeaning comments about women and his boasts about sexual assaults, make it impossible to continue to offer even conditional support for his candidacy. Where the hell was he 8 years ago when his boss McTurtle came out on the night of President Obama's inauguration to block every thing he proposed? Where the hell was he when McYertle blocked one of the biggest rights of the president by blocking his SCOTUS nomination? Where were you McCain when the Congress didn't do one damn thing to stop Wall St. from the banks stealing homes?
Where were you? If you really want to do something .... do the RIGHT thing and block your pals that are screwing us over.

And yeah Cosby is tainted too, but he, like many GOP, was able to spout of a bunch of sweet platitudes that in the long run, turned out to be worthless.
Yes i am grateful he help kill the Trumpcare bill, but should I thank someone for NOT committing murder?
