Senate rulemaker: Fast-track for ObamaCare repeal ends this month

Source: The Hill

BY PETER SULLIVAN - 09/01/17 02:06 PM EDT

The Senate parliamentarian has ruled that a fast-track procedure being used by Republicans to try to repeal ObamaCare expires on Sept. 30, setting a fast-approaching deadline for the GOP to repeal the law.

The parliamentarian ruled that the fast-track process known as reconciliation expires on Sept. 30, which is the end of the fiscal year, according to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee.

The move severely limits the amount of time Republicans have to pass a repeal of ObamaCare. Chances for repeal had already plummeted due to a bill's failure in the Senate in July, but some Republicans are still holding out hope.

After Sept. 30, Republicans would need 60 votes in the Senate, meaning they would need eight Democrats to vote for a repeal bill, which will not happen.

End of the month you say...?

Congress returns to work next week. And when they do, this is what they have to deal with:

1. The National Flood Insurance Program that expires at the end of the month. That might be important. Just sayin'....
2. What about Hurricane Harvey relief?
3. The FAA's authority must be renewed by the end of the month.
4. SCHIP, a state-based children’s health-care program, must be renewed by the end of the month.
5. The nation's debt ceiling needs to be lifted by Sept. 29. And,
6. The federal government will run out of money Sept. 30.

Six major projects. All that in 25-days. (Less 7-days for Saturday's and Jesus, of course; so, actually, they have only 18-days.)

Given all that, do you think there is a chance in hell this collection of birthers, creationists, deficit hawks, howling theocrats, climate-change deniers, and anti-intellectual wads-of-shit have a shot at repealing ObamaCare...?

Your last paragraph is the most clear eyed description of the Republican Party I've seen in years.

Well done!

In that time, they need to raise the debt limit and pass a budget by 9/30.

Anyone think they're going to schedule another humiliating defeat on healthcare durung that time?

He doesn't care about people unless they are super rich Repub. He actually enjoys hurting people (as do Ryan and 45). Do not ever underestimate him and his sociopathic colleagues.
