Hispanic CEO resigns from Trump council, rips Dreamer decision

Source: The Hill

BY JONATHAN EASLEY - 09/05/17 12:42 PM EDT

The president and CEO of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Conference resigned Tuesday from President Trump’s National Diversity Coalition after the administration said it would end an Obama-era program allowing young people brought into the country illegally as children to stay here and work without fear of deportation.

In a blistering statement, Javier Palomarez ripped Trump’s “inhumane and economically harmful” decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program that protects about 800,000 young people known as “Dreamers” from deportation.

"This disgraceful action goes against not only the values of this country, but also against the promise of this administration to focus homeland security resources toward individuals who have committed violent crimes and pose a threat to communities across the country," Palomarez said.

"Let’s lay the truth bare: President Trump has knowingly deceived the American people over the past seven months about his intentions to protect the innocent young men and women of the DACA program."

I have a lot of friends who are foreign nationals legally in this country and I worry about what will happen to them. Just as I worry about strangers who are going to be affected by this outrage.

for all sorts of people who were working here legally: graphic designers, IT workers, nonprofit workers, graduates of US universities who want to work, seasonal hospitality workers, etc.

One of the GOP plans to replace the seasonal hotel/resort workers was to use nonviolent prison labor. The Maine governor wanted to do this.

He didn't see this coming from a President who's first announcement speech contained the following, " Mexican immigrants "rapists" and criminals".

Yet he was still willing to work with Trump administration National Diversity Coalition, what did he think Trump was going to change all of the sudden. Wake up people and study your history it tends to repeat itself. It wont stop if history is any indication it will keep adding to list of anyone who they don't think fits their America. Right now its the immigrants eventual it would be citizens that don't look American...Just look at happen during WWII Japanese citizens sent to camps...

that's cultural exchange programs. My husband and I put our heart and soul into AFS, the high school exchange program for over 20 years. He passed away, but I am still active as much as I can be. And we also mentored 6 college students and their friends over the years through an international program at Marietta College. Marietta, Ohio raised funds in 1914 and paid for the first vehicle, an ambulance for American Field Service, a medical corps, flying the American flag on French soil in WWI. There is a plaque on Gilman St. from the French government thanking Marietta for its effort. And Marietta started supporting student exchange in the early 1960s. Hundreds of students have exchanged to other countries or have been hosted here since then. Cultural exchanges benefit everyone, whether they participate or not. And in Marietta, which is red, politics don't matter. Families host and they support cultural exchange.
