FATHER OF PREGNANT WOMAN KILLED BY POLICE FILES LAWSUIT

SEATTLE (AP) -- The father of a pregnant black woman has sued two white Seattle police officers who shot and killed her in June.

Charles Lyles, the father of Charleena Lyles, filed the civil rights and wrongful death lawsuit on Friday against officers Steven McNew and Jason Anderson, the SeattlePI reported (https://goo.gl/e4QPbr ).

McNew and Anderson are indemnified as city employees, meaning the city would pay any damages if there's a civil judgment or settlement agreement against them.

In August, attorneys for Charles Lyles filed a notice of claim against the city, which still has about a month to respond before a lawsuit can be filed against it.

She had mental health issues and police knew it as they had been to her apartment many times before. Sorry, but I don;t beleive someone would pull a knife on 2 policemen with their children in the house. This doesn't pass the smell test.

It's true. The question is since the police knew she was sick, should they have been prepared to do something else

The question I've had for a while now is just how ARE our police being trained? They seem to be in "panic" mode all of the time, and open fire at will these days. No "Stop" orders, no attempt to disable, they shoot to kill immediately. Even I know better than that.

Unfortunately, ending the lethal threat is always the top priority, as it should be, once the threat has gone lethal.

Preventing the threat from becoming lethal is always a better option. Unfortunately, that is a different discussion.

In case I need to say it, please don't misinterpret what I say as a suggestion that the cops handled the whole situation correctly.
