Washington (CNN)Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi said following a Wednesday night meeting with President Donald Trump that they have "agreed" to a fix on DACA and resolved iron out a border-security plan -- "excluding" the US-Mexico border wall that was one of Trump's most memorable campaign promises.

In an optimistic statement following the White House meeting, Schumer and Pelosi said the parties had "agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that's acceptable to both sides."

.........................
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders pushed back on that assessment: "While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to."

But a person briefed on the meeting said that the President and the Democratic leaders agreed to legislatively pair the bipartisan DREAM Act with some border security, excluding the wall. ..................

When the GOP does something, it's always about them. And Trump is an extreme version of the GOP.
Don't count on anything that comes out of this nightmare to be good for the U.S.

People, it's been said, don't really change - they merely adapt.

As changeable as Trump is, one always hopes a pivot to the center really is possible. Schumer and Pelosi will certainly have his back if he decides to go that route - but you're right: it's very unlikely he'd ever dare create real daylight between himself and the far right.

Pelosi and Schumer will will make a deal the rest of us can't live with.

Congress people are politicians and when a president of the opposite party is in office, they make deals.

Tip O'Neill did just that with Ronald Reagan and got a lot of what Democrats wanted, but Reagan got a second term.

on the Mexican side of the fence. The border is not a straight line. Thanks to Schumer and Pelosi for working to continue to protect DACA, hopefully there can be a immigration reform bill and get it passed if Ryan can see his way to halt the Haskert rule.

Schumer, Pelosi, Trump 'agree' to fix DACA, disagree on the details

Schumer, Pelosi, Trump 'agree' to fix DACA

.................White House press secretary Sarah Sanders immediately pushed back on the idea the wall would be dropped.
"While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to," Sanders said.

White House Legislative Affairs Director Marc Short confirmed that the President and Democrats agreed to work to find a legislative fix for DACA, but he called Democrats' claim of a deal that would exclude wall funding "intentionally misleading."

Schumer's communications director Matt House retweeted Sanders' statement, then added that Trump had indeed agreed to leaving the border wall out of the equation -- at least for this round.

"The President made clear he would continue pushing the wall, just not as part of this agreement," House tweeted. ................
