Rep. Chris Collins Defends President Trump's Tweets: 'He's Just a Fun Guy!'

President Donald Trump again retweeted a weird video that drew many a raised eyebrow over the weekend, this time depicted him shooting a golf ball into former political rival Hillary Clinton. And when Rep. Chris Collins was asked about it on CNN Monday morning, he began laughing, before explaining that “the president does have a sense of humor.”

Collins, a Republican from New York, mentioned the president’s tweet calling Kim Jong Un “Rocket Man”, a playful reference to the North Korean leader’s attempts to develop a nuclear weapon that could destroy an American city.

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota asked if that is the type of message Trump should send ahead of this week’s United Nation General Assembly, to which Collins claimed the president is simply eschewing protocol. “He’s just a fun guy,” Collins said. “So I think the stuffy diplomats at the U.N. are going to be taken aback a bit.”

Camerota then directly asked Collins if he thought the golf ball video was funny, and the lawmaker said he personally doesn’t retweet things, though he declined to criticize Trump for doing so.
