CBO to release limited analysis of ObamaCare repeal bill next week

Source: The Hill

BY JESSIE HELLMANN - 09/18/17 03:31 PM EDT

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) said Monday it's aiming to provide a "preliminary assessment" of a repeal bill sponsored by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Bill Cassidy (R-La.) by early next week.

The score will include information on whether the legislation would reduce deficits by at least as much as was estimated for the House repeal bill passed earlier this year. It will also assess if the bill would save at least $1 billion and whether it would increase on-budget deficits in the long term. But the nonpartisan scorekeeper warned the preliminary score will not include information on how the bill will affect health care coverage or insurance premiums. The CBO said it will be several more weeks before analysts will have those projections.

It could be difficult for some Republican senators to support the bill without knowing how it might impact coverage or premiums. The Senate GOP faces a tight deadline to pass the bill, however.

The Senate parliamentarian ruled that the fast-track budget procedure Republicans are using to try to repeal ObamaCare expires at the end of the month.
