NEBRASKA CITY As a light rain fell and a crowd cheered, an eagle found severely injured this spring was released into the wild.
Chip Davis, founder of Mannheim Steamroller and a supporter of local raptor efforts, released the eagle Monday outside the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center in Nebraska City.
The bird, who became known for his feisty personality as he grew stronger, was nicknamed Bolt.
A crowd of more than 75 people gathered outside the center as Fontenelle Forest staff prepared the eagle for release. A staff member handed the eagle to Davis who wore special protective orange gloves that stretched past his elbows.
