Enough Fentanyl to Kill 32M People Seized in Single NYC Bust: Prosecutors

Source: NBC

In the first bust, on Aug. 1, 2017, police and federal agents seized more than 140 pounds of fentanyl — the most in the city's history — after watching Rogelio Alvardo-Robles and Blanca Flores-Solis receive what appeared to to be a package of cocaine from an unknown trafficker at a Walmart in Manhawkin, New Jersey. Authorities said that after the exchange, they went back to an apartment building in Queens' Kew Gardens neighborhood, where a DEA agent approached them and seized the alleged drugs.

Then, on Sept. 5, authorities seized another 53 pounds of fentanyl-laced heroin and another 2 pounds of uncut fentanyl during a stop near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. That bust came after detectives and DEA agents watched Edwin Guzman and Manuel Rivera-Santana pick up a duffel bag from men inside a tractor trailer and drove back into New York City.

Four people were arrested after the busts in August and September that also netted 75 pounds of heroin and cocaine. Bridget G. Brennan, New York City's special narcotics prosecutor, said the busts come as overdose deaths hit an all-time high in New York's five boroughs in 2016.

"The sheer volume of fentanyl pouring into the city is shocking," she said. "It's not only killing a record number of people in New York City, but the city is used as a hub of regional distribution for a lethal substance that is taking thousands of lives throughout the Northeast."

imo only a matter of time before a 'spill' or 'accident' with this fentanyl drug causes a major disaster event.

They need to go after drug manufacturers who are diverting this shit to organized crime in the name of the great god GREED.

They won't do that, of course. They allowed manufacture to be offshored and besides, some fat cat stockholder might get annoyed.

https://www.cancer.org/cancer/small-cell-lung-cancer/causes-risks-prevention/risk-factors.html

It’s been hard to study whether there is a link between marijuana and lung cancer because marijuana has been illegal in many places for so long, and it’s not easy to gather information about the use of illegal drugs.

Also, in studies that have looked at past marijuana use in people who had lung cancer, most of the marijuana smokers also smoked cigarettes. This can make it hard to know how much any increase in risk is from tobacco and how much might be from marijuana. More research is needed to know the cancer risks from smoking marijuana.

less addictive, but more expensive, painkillers. That's just wrong. They can put it on a more expensive tier, but the decision as too which painkiller is best is the doctor's job, not the insurance company's.

21. It's only 'powerful' in the sense that it's highly concentrated ...

To compare it in weed terms, Fentanyl has basically the desirability of dried-out-dirt-mexi-smuggled-in-a-spare-tire. Nobody WANTS it, its shit. Super-short lived, no 'legs', lotta annoying itching, with a medium-grade euphoria at best, and terrible come-down ... just because it's 'concentrated' doesn't mean it's 'powerful' ... in the way that users want their dope to be.

However, it can be synthesized (without poppies) and extremely valuable packages of it ... take up minimal space ... so it's GREAT for the dealers. As you suggest, the USERS ... don't 'prefer' it at all. But it'll get you outta being dope sick for an hour, and the streets are flooding with it, so ... addicts have 'no choice' as the pharmaceuticals dry up ... unless they have still connections for those, or real smack.

Dunno how many serious addicts would rather have codeine, but there's many other less dangerous (esp. if it was pharmaceutical) opioids they'd much rather have than fentanyl ... heroin, oxy/hydromorphone, and liquid morphine, for sure. I'm sure there's others. Hell, lowly hydrocodone is a nicer buzz than fentanyl.

It was applied the day before in the hospital after a bike accident (three broken ribs)...

I couldn't stand the mental fog it induced...

Of course, I had to scream getting in and out of bed, but that was a small price to pay for being able to think clearly.

Not that my thinking is always that clear to begin with

In any case, tried it, didn't like it.

Though I think in all cases drugs like Fentanyl should be in full Doctors use to euthanize and relieve pain.

I am against the death penalty, IMO though the drugs states use now to kill people are cruel- States should use Fent. also to murder their prisoners.

(I read) Russians used Fentanyl, remember the chethnen (spelling) "terrorists" who had 200? kids hostage in Russia decades ago? Russian shot some gas/flashbang? inside and everyone died.

IMO that stuff was 'weaponised' long ago and I hate the idea ounces and pounds of that shit are being found in the USA.

Sure maybe its coming from China, or maybe the components come from china but I bet that crap is just as easy to come from the close totally unguarded Russian border by sea.

Once people stop breathing, they either need someone pumping air into them or an antidote. Or they will die.

I know what it is and its not a safe product to have out and about.
