(21,621 posts)She must be ready to retire. I've noticed that elder GOP senators often change their ways for the better as retirement draws closer - like wicked older people who, as they feel the end coming closer, try to make amends in some real and often very meaningful way.
It's always better late than never.

(59,501 posts)Given that this bill has a 20 or so approval nationally, I assume that a "no" vote can't hurt her -- where a yes would.
The old enlightened self-interest. Better than no enlightenment at all I guess.

WASHINGTON Senator Susan Collins of Maine said on Monday that she would oppose the latest plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, leaving Republican leaders clearly short of the votes they need for passage. Ms. Collins, a Republican, announced her opposition in a written statement, delivering a significant and possibly fatal blow to the partys seven-year quest to dismantle the health law.
Health care is a deeply personal, complex issue that affects every single one of us and one-sixth of the American economy. Sweeping reforms to our health care system and to Medicaid cant be done well in a compressed time frame, especially when the actual bill is a moving target, Ms. Collins said in the statement.
Today, we find out that there is now a fourth version of the Graham-Cassidy proposal, which is as deeply flawed as the previous iterations, she said. The fact that a new version of this bill was released the very week we are supposed to vote compounds the problem.
She added: This is simply not the way that we should be approaching an important and complex issue that must be handled thoughtfully and fairly for all Americans.

(43,123 posts)because they won't know what to do. It would spawn a series of apoplexies and retirements. They can't accept, acknowledge, or tolerate the consequences of their own political actions.
Their only hope is they can get to a point of maximum power where their actions are meaningless politically, like in a dictatorship.
At no point did they want to govern a democracy, they just wanted to tear down Democrats and Obama and take the money for themselves.

(6,931 posts)Yep their plan is to be sooooo great that you just can't rush into it. They'll kill the ACA,let the insurance companies go back to their old ways and then......nothing.

(43,123 posts)Our health care system has modernized, it's moving ahead with hospice and outpatient urgent care in lieu of ER,
hospital staffs have grown ...
Go ahead, GOP, Mitch, Ryan, Trump and Pence, slash $800 billion from healthcare ... feel the slowdown.

(31,230 posts)to come out as a "NO" as well. As many have said before, I don't trust Rand Paul.

(51,584 posts)They will be making backroom deals until Oct 1st and I will not breath a sigh of relief until then. They pull this shit all the time (remember what the House did?). Besides, McConnell must have a win and he is a sneaky, evil bastard (remember Gorsuch?). I will be making my daily 12 or 13 calls until Sat and hopefully I will have something to celebrate this weekend.

(67,782 posts)...Cruz and Lee both said they were no based on yesterday's version of the bill, which has since been revised.

(4,266 posts)I don't know how the bill being revised will impact Cruz and Lee, but I suspect they both know which way the wind is blowing, and they'll both see that revisions are intended to bribe them. Rather like what's been tried with Murkowski.

(69 posts)...doesn't bode well.
But, at this point, McConnell and Hatch agree that it's dead. It's not even going to be put to the floor.
But I won't really rest easy until 10-1.

Why that paragraph? Collins was around when ACA was passed. There were lengthy discussions, compromises, arguments, and additions and corrections. Obama negotiated and compromised, and it took time. Collins was there...
This is an ugly piece of S**T IS being forced down on everyone in a few weeks.. It lost in the summer, and this thing is just a twin of that summer monster..The lady from Alaska will also vote NO.. She saw through the scam before, (yes it is a scam)...and she will see through it again...
I sure hope this fails.............McConnell can rot in a living hell that he erected....He cares only about his own power and nothing about the health care of people in the U.S.A.
