Trump eyes executive order on healthcare, vows another vote next year

Source: Reuters

SEPTEMBER 27, 2017 / 7:59 AM / UPDATED 26 MINUTES AGO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump, faced with the latest congressional failure to undo Obamacare, said on Wednesday he was working on an executive order to expand access to health insurance and would negotiate with Democrats for a legislative solution by next year.

Senate Republicans abandoned their latest effort to repeal President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act on Tuesday after failing to secure sufficient support.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said Congress would return to the healthcare issue in the first few months of 2018 and said he had the votes to get it done. In the meantime, he said he would work with Democrats to make the effort one that had support from both parties.

“I am ... going to meet with Democrats and I will see if I can get a healthcare plan that’s even better,” he said. “So I will negotiate with Democrats but from the Republican standpoint we have the votes. We’ll vote in January, February or March.”

I have a diehard rethug in the next office that just came over and asked me how to sign up for Obamacare. He was in the hospital for 4 days with pneumonia and the bills are coming in. He has no insurance. Of course. Last year it was "I'm not going on THAT website." He said nothing when I told him the prices will probably be higher now because of drumpf's meddling and threats to defund everything.

last Sept and that was WITH the ACA. It took me a long time to save that much on a teacher's salary. Now I can't teach and my savings have been disappearing rapidly (35% of my disability income goes toward my health bills and that is with subsidies too!). They need to fix this!!! The GOP wants to bankrupt and harm people and make it a political game....evil bastards!

Since I had only 16 years in the health insur through my district would have been more than the ACA with subsidies. It sucks! I hope Single Payer or Medicare For All happens soon but I doubt it.

and have enough credits. Most people aren't aware of it. We have to pay into disability out of your paycheck on a voluntary, individual basis. If you have a baby you don't get the extra weeks afterwards to stay home unless beforehand you knew to have disability taken out of your paychecks. My master teacher told me this fact so when I finally was able to get a position after two long years subbing and working 3 jobs I did that and spread the word to others.
Also, we are one of 13 states that has Social Security Offset which means that you can not get more than about 20% of what you already paid into SS. As a teacher you have money taken out automatically for your state pension (not SS). However, if you ever worked and made money and paid into SS besides teaching, that money is GONE! I didn't become a teacher until I was in my 30s and worked and paid into it for over 10 years. It makes no sense and when I told anyone, even fellow experienced teachers they did not believe me. I had to get the printed paperwork from the state to prove it to them.
I currently get state teacher retirement disability through the teachers' pension (CALstrs). It is very little, especially since I live in the 8th most expensive city in the US and the cost of living is very, very high. I want to be with my parents and they moved here when I was in college. Now they are in their 80s and healthier than me, thank goodness!

An ex who lives in Gothenburg, Sweden told me over 25 years ago that our country is WAY to greedy, into profit and against it's people's best interests for Single Payer to EVER work here. He's right. This country is too hung up on making sure that money STAYS trickling up and into rich people's coffers to EVER care really bring universal health care to people here.

We speak every so often, and he says he REALLY doesn't see it happening in his lifetime now (He's not that old: 58), because of the utter shambles tRump/congress will be leaving us with (Plus: Our courts filled with righties for generation or more, amount of $ in politics, the dumbing down of America, antipathy concerning voting, unfair voting practices).

He's right, Damn shame ....

for a stay of maybe 6 or 7 hours. It was $11,000 before insurance paid their portion. Lucky for me, some charity paid the rest since I was making less than $10,000/year at the time.

Look at the bills. My wife just did 3 days following an ER visit for a nasty fall. $48,000.00 and that's not counting the bills coming from the neurologist and various tests.

$4k is a lot, but imagine if you didn't have insurance.

I wonder how much of it will actually happen. If he wanted to he could say he will continue to pay subsidies and that would help stabilize insur markets right now. Instead he is sabotaging it any way he can.

...if he really wanted to expand access for everyone and reduce their premiums, he would have been working with the health insurance providers to have more options for folks on the exchanges. Instead, what did he do, take away the subsidies on a lot of the exchanges, forcing the health insurance providers to flee for fear of not having subsidies.

Trump is a Con Man.

almost enough votes to pass his health care, except that there was one senator who was in the hospital and couldn't vote. I bet he was thinking of McCain----and Dump was having one of his "moments." I don't think he was thinking of another senator who has said he is at home recuperating from something as Chris Hayes was talking about on his program this afternoon.

There has been another clip on line where Dump is at a photo op with Melania and he said he wished she was there to show her support for the Maria victims----and Melania was standing right next to him. Let's call these "moments" what they are. Please. No cover-ups.
