O.J. Simpson walks out of prison after 9 years
Source: CNN
(CNN)O.J. Simpson walked out of prison early Sunday after serving nine years for a Las Vegas armed robbery, a Nevada corrections official said.
The former NFL star left prison shortly after midnight local time, and was picked up by a friend, Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Keast said.
"I told him, 'don't 'come back,' and he responded, 'I don't intend to, '" she said. "He was upbeat, personable, and seemed happy to get on with his life."

(1,399 posts)A, first-time felon, received a sentence in this case that was probably ten times what even another black man would have received and this incident would have been pled out to some firearms offense and probation if he was white.
And you folks are mad.

(6,931 posts)Instead he did less than nine. But I guess we should all look the other way because of OJ's football career??
"Simpson and Stewart were charged with 12 counts, including conspiracy to commit a crime, robbery, assault and kidnapping with a deadly weapon."
Simpson got his sentence because of the previous murder charges where he was acquitted. If you think the justice system should operate on revenge then you are happy with the sentence. But for people who desire a justice system which operates on law it was an outrageous sentence.

(1,399 posts)The facts of the "kidnapping" case (in other words, what actually happened) were the kinds of things that would have got pled out for anyone else with little or no jail time.
O.J.'s sentence in this case, like the current anger over his release, is the criminal justice system and its worshippers taking revenge on Simpson for getting the kind of defense every defendant should get but few can afford.

(1,399 posts)Than accusing his jury and/or those who support its verdict of acquitting him because he was a football player or because he was black?
Two people were murdered. O.J. was accused. O.J. faced a jury. O.J. was acquitted.
If you want to cry about murderers being let off, start with cops who never had to face a jury for killing an innocent black man like in Ferguson.

(2,001 posts)In the brown trial, Instead it was a poor black man being railroaded by the system. Although it happens a lot it didn't happen to OJ.
You're a better judge of the evidence than the jury in his murder trial?
What about you makes you better?

(2,001 posts)OJs DNA (blood) was found all over that crime scene, OJ had a VICIOUS multiple history of beating the shit out of Nicole. (the pictures were terrible). You need to google the evidence against OJ, Then sit here on this forum and stick up for this double murderer.
GaryCnf
(1,399 posts)was not "all over the crime scene." It was on a glove. You remember the glove, right, the magical shrinking glove that the prosecution couldn't find an expert to explain?
O.J.'s history of domestic abuse shows he was a despicable abuser but is hardly proof beyond a reasonable doubt that O.J. went to his ex-wife's house out of the blue and committed a double murder (there was no evidence of any recent incident of abuse, or, for that matter, even any recent dispute, that the prosecution could point to as explaining why O.J. would go there in the first place).
Since you appear to like Google, you should try it yourself, because as of now you have done little more than point to non-existent DNA evidence and an argument that "domestic abuser equals first degree murderer" to support an attack on the twelve jurors who heard the case.

INNOCENT PEOPLE DO NOT BEHAVE THAT WAY
When you know you're a suspect and the conventional wisdom is you're guilty even before there has been a trial means you're guilty?
That sounds like what we hear when some cop shoots one of us down. "Well he wouldn't have run unless he was guilty."
Be careful projecting your faith in the criminal justice system on others.
we're not talking about poor person of little education and no means of defense
done here, I am NOT wasting my time talking about that murderous piece of SHIT or the sick people who EXCUSE his actions

(50,555 posts)Specifically, the vacutainer of OJs blood that was two-thirds full. Everyone has had blood drawn. Everyone knows they leave the tube plugged in until its full. But because (1) there was almost no blood in the Bronco, (2) Phillip Vannatter decided OJs blood needed to see what a normal family life was like and took it home for the weekend, and (3) there was some missing, every piece of blood evidence had to be ignored. By the time you get rid of all the tainted evidence, youre left with you just gotta believe me. Which didnt work for Joe in Idiocracy and shouldnt work in the real world. ESPECIALLY since a mans life was on the line.

(1,399 posts)to read people claiming that OJ had no reason to fear the cops or the criminal justice system unless he was guilty not even a month after Las Vegas cops pointed a gun at Seahawks DE Michael Bennett and threatened to blow his head off.
It must be nice in some people's world.

(6,390 posts)...more than likely. And if he didn't, at the very least was covering up for someone else. He should have been in San Quentin, but the system failed and like it or not, that is our system and he was free to walk. Guilty until proven innocent is what racist cops do and sadly, probably too many of them in the force.
With that said, revenge justice has no business in the legal system. What he did would have been a rather minimal sentence. Be pissed off all you want, but you can't substitute the sentence for one crime for another that should have been.
And given our imperfect system that errors to the side of caution, we still get too many who are innocent, incarcerated, or worse, put on death row.
