Romney aide's health care remarks spark flap
Source: USA today
Conservatives were up in arms on Wednesday after an attempt by Mitt Romney's spokeswoman to defend the candidate against a negative ad seemed to turn into a tacit endorsement of the Affordable Care Act.
The comments came as Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded to a recent controversial ad by Priorities USA Action, a pro-Obama super PAC, that linked Romney to a woman's death.

Saul's response enraged the right.
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh called the comment "a potential gold mine for Obama supporters," according to Talking Points Memo.
"They can say, 'Romneycare was the basis for our health care,'" Limbaugh said.
The remarks prompted RedState.com editor Erick Erickson to write a post titled "The Moment All the Doubts About Romney Resurfaced on the Right."

US election: Mitt Romney aide makes rare defence of Romneycare
Mitt Romney's official spokeswoman appeared to veer off message on Wednesday after she defended health reforms the Republican passed while Governor of Massachusetts but has been reluctant to talk about since
The apparent gaffe alarmed conservative pundits, who feared it would hand ammunition to Obama supporters defending the Democratic incumbent's 2009 national health care law, which was based on the same principles as Mr Romney's Massachusetts.
¬snip¬
"To that point, you know, if people had been in Massachusetts under Governor Romney's health care plan, they would have had health care," Miss Saul told Fox News, normally a safe stage for Republican talking heads.

(34,845 posts)There is no 'team' because there is no leader. Romney is so clueless and inept that all the parts of his campaign go off and do their own thing and make their own statements.
There is no center. In the Romney campaign or in the GOP as a whole.

(17,387 posts)LOL! Romney's campaign ADMITS that the Indiana resident's wife would have had coverage if she was in Massachusetts, which has the health care law that the Afforable Health Care Act is Based On!
While the MSM reacts in outrage to the Obama campaign's exposure of what would happen if Romney is successful in repealing the Health Care Reform, a Romney Aide essentially admits that the Affordable Healthcare Act, which is similar to Massachusetts' health care law, WOULD have covered the pre-existing condition.
The question is whether the Romney Aide went rogue or is Romney trying to have it both ways and claim credit for the Massachusetts Health Care law while also vowing to repeal identical provisions in the Affordable Health Care Act.
