MSNBC's Brzezinski: 'I can't go forward' with book deal unless Weinstein resigns

MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski is calling for film producer Harvey Weinstein to go on a "long, self-imposed exile," saying she is refusing to proceed on a book deal unless he steps down from his companies in the wake of sexual harassment allegations.
"Harvey Weinstein needs to resign from his companies, face his sickness, and go into a long, self-imposed exile," Brezinski wrote in a tweet Saturday, linking to a New York Times story titled, "Harvey Weinsteins Media Enablers."
"Authors, actors, and moviemakers should not work for any Weinstein company until he resigns. Not a close call," the liberal "Morning Joe" co-host continued.
"I have a three-book deal with Weinstein Books, through Hachette. I cant go forward with those books unless Harvey resigns," Brzezinski added.

(2,003 posts)It's my understanding that everyone in the entertainment industry knew Harvey Weinstein was a sexual predator. He paid no less than eight settlements to accusers. Suddenly people are outraged.

(59,474 posts)What I suspect is that someone in Mica's position likely heard the rumours, but she opted to either not believe them or not them stand in the way of getting the book deal that she received. What changed with the NYT story is that this is all public now. In fact, her call for him to leave his companies is probably a stronger reaction than would have happened if she did NOT have that contract. Weinstein is not a governmental official or a religious/moral leader where a response to have him step down makes sense as he besmirches their reputation as well as his. (That said, he likely IS on the board of many charities, philanthropies, companies that are not his etc -- he should step down or risk being told to resign if these allegations are proven -- which already seems the case from his own reaction.)
As to the various people who are working on projects for his companies, they might be in a situation where they are contractually forced to complete the process or they might believe in their project itself. If you were midstream in filming a movie, what is the moral obligation of the actors, producers and directors? However, Mica's call could impact FUTURE projects not yet finalized. It is more a call to creative people not to associated with him now that this is known -- while giving him an "out" - essentially "go to rehab".

(5,791 posts)The fact that the pukes have sold their soul to enable an admitted serial sexual predator to sit in the White House means that they can't criticize another admitted serial sexual predator just because he has supported some liberal causes.
That would be hypocritical, and we all know pukes never are hypocrites.

(11,843 posts)as one party knows about it.
Minnesota law is a one-party consent state, which means that only one party to a communication needs to consent for a recording of the communication to be legal unless the recording is made for the purpose of committing a criminal or tortious act. See Minn. Stat. § 626A.02, Subd. 2(d).Jun 26, 2013
California is a two party consent state, so everyone involved has to know. I'm not sure how it works crossing state lines...

But something in me can never forget or forgive their years and years of badgering the Obama administration with RW talking points and fake news innuendo and whitewashing Republican behaviour. Mika used to play more of the Vanna White role of the attractive blonde just sitting nodding her approval of whatever Joe shot out from the hip, but still. They were like the Fox News lite raft floating in the MSNBC waters like a turd on a rope.
