Wealthy GOP donor Adelson files libel suit in NY

NEW YORK (AP) — Billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson has filed a defamation lawsuit in New York against the National Jewish Democratic Council and top officials, saying they made libelous statements regarding his political contributions.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in federal court in Manhattan seeks $60 million in damages. Adelson is chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp. and donates to Republican campaigns.

The lawsuit alleges the Washington-based Council said Adelson personally approved of prostitution in resorts owned by Sands China Limited, a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands. The suit accuses the Council of "assassinating" Adelson's character.

The Council said its reports referenced mainstream press accounts and were "wholly appropriate."

The press accounts described claims by a fired former Sands China executive. Adelson has denied the claims.

9. As I understand it, this dude is currently in deep hockey puck

on a whole other level. I have been told that he is currently being investigated on the federal level on a charge of bribing officials in a foreign country. And that if charges are brought up on him, and then if he is convicted of those charges, he is going to spend a very long time in the joint. He knows that the only person who will cut him any slack in the investigation is Mitt Romney (birds of a feather), and therefore he has announced that he will spend an unlimited amount of his wealth in effort to get Romney elected.

Given the current state of Romney's campaign, it might appear that even an endless amount of money will not be enough for Romney to win and then save his sorry, pathetic "soul" (except you know that soul is not the word that is on my mind).

Anyone care to guess how really neat it must feel to be Sheldon Adelson right now?

Hell, if some law firm takes on this case for free and wants help with the legal research, they should call me. I'd donate some time.

How many other lawyers would come forward? Well, let's recap: Adelson is attacking freedom of speech. He's a right-wing political figure who's suing in New York against a major Jewish organization. The case will be highly publicized (so a pro bono lawyer will certainly get some media attention and quite possibly some paying business as a result).

I predict that defendant's only problem will be deciding which offer(s) of free legal help to accept.
